It is heavier than it looks, with thick folds at the edges. This is great because the blanket doesn't slide around everywhere. I ran it through the washer and dryer (delicate) when I got it to remove the remnants of straightening etc. and it came out intact with no odor. It did produce a lot of lint in the dryer. The lint trap had to be emptied halfway through drying and the item is large enough that it has to be rearranged in the dryer so all parts get drying air flow.My only complaint is that this blanket is not 100% cotton or 100% "tree fiber" as stated in the description. The tag says 85% cotton, 15% polyester.
