You don't HAVE to LOVE what you're doing...

*by S***H on Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2018*

I love Christy, I really do, she has a passion for empowering women and I am able to connect with her. I bought this book hoping it would be a guide for my business or give me answers to questions I didn't know to ask but I couldn't get past the first few chapters. I guess this was my mistake for not reading the title correctly but everything was "you gotta love what your doing! love it! love it! LOVE IT!!" and honestly, I do get joy out of what I am doing but it's not my passion I don't LOVE IT. I do it because it gives me a creative outlet and well, mostly because it makes me money. I started to doubt what I was doing because based on this book, I felt that if I don't love it then it won't work and that's just not true. Maybe I'll skip ahead and see if it really gets in to talking about business but I needed to take a break from it so I didn't quit something that is working for me. I think (most of the time) you have to decide if you want to live your passion or make money, very few people will find something that does both. For example, I LOVE baking! I could wake up everyday at 3 am and start baking BUT after much research, I know it won't make me money and as a family of 6, we need money over hard work and hardly any pay. So I would prefer to do something I LIKE so in the future I can do something I LOVE. Yes, my mistake for not reading the title, hopefully I am able to get some knowledge out of the next few chapters.

    Fluffy and not relevant.

*by S***S on Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2020*

This book has a lot of fluff. It is clear she does not own a boutique so can’t give sound advice or tips on operating one. It is personal story after personal story and nothing directly related to boutiques. This is more of an overview of how to open any generic business with a self help/you go girl theme. If you have the time to read thru this wordy novel you are probably wasting too much time each day, which is the reason your business is not doing well.

Encouragement for running your own business and your life

I loved what she wrote about “there’s room enough for you too” when you look around and see really super successful people with the same product. Like mine: parenting advice in yet another parenting book. Yeap. She asks you to explore what is your unique offering. I thought this through and realized mine is equipping parents to raise great kids authentically and practically without the need for a PHD. The other super good thing she said that helps me so much is “anticipating the reward not the sacrifice” (the sacrifice necessary in reaching that reward) and as well her chapter on fear. Specifically how we often feel like imposters. “Who are you to do this? The imposter syndrome; fear of being found out...” boy did that one totally hit home with me. I’ve totally struggled with the imposter syndrome. Anyway great stuff!
