    Colourful, enjoyable introduction to the artist and his work

I wanted large-size colour pictures and an entertaining background to the artist. This book hits the mark. Unlike some specialist art books, this succinct and readable text brings to life the somewhat tortuous career of Gauguin, illuminated at every step by his sumptuous art. A clear and logical progression becomes apparent. Although Guaguin himself hardly seems the most admirable person, the book  creates interest by closely linking the events of his life and his emotional state to each and every painting.

It was what I wanted and expected. The photos of paintings are good and the text is interesting. It is colorful anda great addition to my art books. I will enjoy going through it again and again.
