The handle has a nice rubberised surface and it feels quality. Not cheap aluminum. I got it for my mom's Craftmatic bed. The instructions stated that you must have it no closer then 15" from the headboard.Update: 5/10/19:If you pull on the bar externally it can slide out from under the mattress.
