Its designed for engines with no catalytic converter in the exhaust (pre-1977 cars/trucks) and race engines. This product is also used as an engine "break-in" additive for newly built engines. For non-race applications, one bottle will usually treat two oil changes. Some race-engine applications require the entire bottle. Flat tappet cam as well as pre-1996 engines require this additive. It is a wonderful product, I use it in all of my vehicles as well as the Lucas ATF supplement **Q: Could/should this be used on a older worn engine to extend its life? No breaking in. Just protecting the engine for further wear.** A: Yes I use it on a 350 small block that has 150k, the zinc does help, but it wont fix worn parts like bearings..etc.. Whenever its down a quart I add that, its expensive but even if it offered a 10 percent lubrication benefit, its still worth it for me. Or should I go 70-80% of redline?** A: Take it a little easy for the first 500 miles. Make a few medium acceleration pulls, a few hard acceleration pulls. Let the engine slow the car when you do this not the brake. After 500 change the oil and you should be good to go.
