Ordered a M and the size chart said was 48cm. It was actually 51 which was better. So, hand measurement may work in your favour. If your order your normal size and it's a wee bit bigger then all is good, if it's a couple cm's the other way then there's a possible problem. I was lucky, but my advice is it you M go L, and so on. Icelandic sheep produce a unique fibre and the ladies who knit these sweaters follow a tradition going back into history. This kind of quality and tradition truly ascends the transience of fashion.This the third Icewear sweater that I’ve purchased and the second hand knitted one. I am a 44” chest and 5’10” so ordinarily I’d go for XL. However I find that their XL comes up too large and especially in the sleeve so I find that size L is ideal for me.
