They are woody smelling out of box but once they’re out in napkins that went away. The knives cut chicken breasts without splinters and forks were very sturdy. Spoons are great for soup but not the cake because of the wood it sticks to it so we used the forks for cake that was great. The only problem is that, if they are dumped into the wrong recycle cans with other materials, the recycling service will treat them as trash.
