Review: Go-To Mineral Sunscreen for the Family - Thinkbaby SPF 50+ Baby Mineral Sunscreen has earned a permanent spot in our medicine cabinet. The first thing I look for in any sun protection, especially for my child, is a clean ingredient list, and this one delivers. It’s a non-nano zinc oxide formula that provides effective broad-spectrum protection without any of the chemicals I try to avoid. It gives me great peace of mind to use a product that’s free from parabens, oxybenzone, and a lot of other common irritants. The light, natural scent is also a huge plus; it’s a subtle, almost fruity aroma that isn't overpowering like many other sunscreens. For a mineral sunblock, this formula is surprisingly easy to work with. Yes, it comes out of the tube thick, as you’d expect from a zinc-based cream, and initially leaves a white cast. However, with just a little rubbing, it absorbs much better than its competitors. I've found it doesn't leave that heavy, sticky, or greasy feeling on the skin. We’ve tested this out on long, active days at the pool and the park. The water resistance is top-notch, holding up for the promised 80 minutes of play without fail. Most importantly, it’s highly effective. My child's sensitive skin hasn't had any irritation or breakouts, and we've had zero sunburns since switching to this. It's gentle enough for daily use but robust enough for a full day of swimming or sun exposure. The protection is reliable, and the application is manageable, even on a squirmy toddler. This is a genuinely fantastic, skin-friendly mineral sunscreen that works well for all skin types in the family.
Review: One of the Best Mineral Sunscreens — Safe, Effective, and Kid-Approved - As a parent, I’m always cautious about what goes on my child’s skin—especially when it comes to sun protection. Thinkbaby Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+ has become our go-to for several reasons. First, the ingredient list is incredibly clean, free of harmful chemicals like oxybenzone, avobenzone, and parabens. It’s a non-nano zinc oxide formula, which gives me peace of mind when using it on sensitive skin. There’s also no overpowering fragrance—just a light, neutral scent that fades quickly. Application is smooth for a mineral sunscreen. It goes on thick enough to feel protective, but it’s surprisingly easy to rub in compared to other zinc-based formulas. It leaves only a minimal white cast, which disappears quickly on my child’s fair skin. We’ve tested this through pool days, park trips, and long hikes—it holds up well with excellent water resistance (up to 80 minutes) and no skin irritation whatsoever. Best of all, my toddler doesn’t fight me when it’s time to put it on, which speaks volumes. If you’re looking for a safe, effective, and child-friendly sunscreen, Thinkbaby is one of the best mineral options on the market. It earns a permanent spot in our summer bag.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What's the difference between ThinkBaby and ThinkSport?**
A: The ingredient lists are exactly the same except for the last ones - ThinkBaby has papaya and ThinkSport has currant and citrus paradisi (grapefruit). I have used ThinkBaby which has a papaya scent so I would assume the difference is ThinkSport has a currant/grapefruit scent.

**Q: Does this work well on adults? I have been reading some reviews and noticed that its common to expect tanning. Can I get some experiences and opinions on this? Does this work well while swimming or sweating?**
A: I use it on a regular basis. I work outdoors and generally find reapplying every 4 hours works for me. This seems to hold up well to sweat, in my opinion; I have never been swimming while wearing it. As for the tanning, I haven't encountered that issue by applying it relatively generously (about the amount that one would use when apply a moisturizing lotion - turns me nice and white and takes a bit of working in to the skin... then the white fades). It's my favorite 'healthy' sunscreen - the consistency is so much nicer than a lot of the others!

**Q: Why is there a bpa warning on this sunscreen? Does it contain bpa?**
A: I looked at the image and I see the warning that says keep away from heat and sunlight. I always assumed those kind of warnings were about the actual product degrading, not that there was a BPA /BPS issue.

I am aware of those issues though but I guess I was naive and didn't even think about considering them while looking for safe mineral sunscreens( which is already been an exhaustive chore). I appreciate both of you bringing this to my attention and I hope Thinksport actually addresses this soon.

Honestly I'm just getting more and more frustrated trying to find a safe, mineral, vegan sunscreen. I didn't find any last year and the year before I found one but it had artificial fragrance and I ended up not using it because I couldn't take the scent. :(

**Q: Is thinkbaby sunscreen hypoallergenic?**
A: Hi. The CEO of thinkbaby wrote an article o sunscreens. Here is an excerpt which talks about hypo-allergenic.Safe SunscreenJust google searching chemical sunscreen and you'll find a raging debate on ingredient safety and efficacy. We all like to think that chemicals that we interact with on a daily basis are regulated by some aspect of the government. But, the reality is that the cosmetic and chemical industries are highly unregulated. There are 80,000 chemicals in commerce today and only 5 have been removed from use over the last 30 years... Yes if that seems ridiculous, you are correct. There are two types of sunscreens on the market. The first is chemical sunscreen. They work by taking the UV light and try to convert the light into something less harmful. The downside is that they not only generate free radicals, but the chemicals themselves are highly questionable. Luckily there is a database that provides unbelievable support in locating information relating to these ingredients. The database was put together by the Environmental Working Group and its called Skin Deep. The database currently has over 1500 sunscreens entered, but even if you don't find your formula, you can easily put each individual ingredient in to see its safety rating. The second types of sunscreens are mineral based solutions. You'll either see Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide as the active ingredient. Mineral sunscreens work by reflecting the UV light. Keep in mind it's important to understand what is in the inactive ingredient list. It is easy for harmful chemicals to make their way into that list as well. So solely focusing on the active ingredients will only provide you part of the safety story.Chemical sunscreens make up the majority of the market unfortunately. They are both cheap and apply clear. Mineral based solutions can cause some amount of whitening during use and are also more expensive. But at what cost is it cheaper. Some mineral base formulations have also taken to using clear zinc or nano particle sized zinc or titanium. We recommend sourcing a non-nano zinc oxide solution. There is just not enough data on the ability for nano particles getting into the blood stream. As such, it is better to embrace the Precautionary principle. No brand of sunscreen can market to children less than 6 months of age. You should consult with your doctor before applying any sunscreen. Our suggestion would be to ask them about skin patch testing and also bring the ingredients deck. Incidence of allergic responses has skyrocketed over the last two decades. Any sunscreen that is marketing itself as "hypo-allergenic" is engaged in false marketing. There are plenty of natural ingredients (like nuts) that children are allergic too. There is just no way of guarantying allergic response.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ among the best sunscreens on the market...
*by A***R on June 19, 2014*

In the summertime protecting myself and my children from harmful effects of sun is of great importance. We all need sunlight for proper Vitamin D synthesis in our body however a 20 minute/day direct exposure (not blocked by window glass or clear plastic) is more than enough for that purpose. Anything above that starts to show the adverse effects of the sun. What are they? The most pronounced two adverse effects are premature aging of skin and skin cancer, not to mention horrible immediate redness and tenderness followed by peeling of skin which can cancel your all joy from a beach holiday. To avoid all those effects we have to take preventive measures. The most effective and the least harmful preventive measure is to avoid exposure to sun during critical hours. So if you can avoid being under direct sunlight between 10am and 3pm you are doing the best you can do. Second comes appropriate clothing and accessories. I recommend using rash guards (top part of swim suits that can block UV while not causing a big restriction.) They should be worn especially by children although I, as an adult men, got used to wearing one Speedo Men's UPF 50+ Easy Short Sleeve Rashguard Swim Tee happily . Hats and glasses are other accessories that come to my mind as preventive measures. Third comes the sunscreens. The reason I rate it below the first two is that it contains a bunch of ingredients and can readily be absorbed by body, enter blood stream or have effects in local skin tissue. Therefore it is critical to know what is in it and what it does after routine daily use. Another reason is that it may give a false safety feeling since it is not effective until 15 minutes has past after applying and the protective effect vanishes after 80 minutes.(also true for this model as written on the bottle). So not knowing these details may get you unprotected while you mistakenly believe you are safe... According to FDA website 17 ingredients are allowed to be topically applied to skin for the purpose of sun protection. External websites (including the Oz show and EWG) says 15 of them are proven endocrine distruptors which, after entering your blood stream can act as your hormones and cause imbalance, leading to different adverse effects. Oxybenzene (endocrine distruptor) and some vitamin A derivatives (claimed by some sources as carcinogenic) are the most infamous nasty chemicals among the other bad fellows that make up the list. The 'innocent' guys are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Those ingredients are believed to be relatively harmless while offering good UV protection. This particular product has 20% zinc oxide as the active ingredient. So it has an overall rating of 1 out of 10 in EWG (Environmental Working Group) website (lower number means less harmful) Zinc oxide, on that website , is rated as 2 with some minor concerns about cellular problems and bio-accumulation. Other filler ingredients are listed as harmless except dimethicone which was rated 3 due to some organ level toxicity concerns as well as environmental toxicity issues. However among the list of 462 sunscreens clearly investigated by that independent agency, this one still rates among the top products. Besides it is rated as having a good balance of UV A and UV B protection by many external websites I have searched including EWG itself. After all those general information, here comes my hands on experience after two months of use: -It is effective: No sunburn in my children after our two weeks of beach holiday. (But I have to say we have avoided the sun by staying in shade as much as possible and used protective clothing too..) -It did not cause any irritation or skin problems,it is also written on the bottle to be safe for babies over 6 months old (younger than that: check with your doctor is what it says) -It does not smell nasty. No smell apart from a mild fruity smell. -Price wise it is okay especially when considering the availability to order it through subscribe and save and get an additional upto 20% discount (at the time I bought it). (some reviewers point out bigger 6 ounce sizes are available for cheaper in external websites which might be worth considering too...) Over all, I am pretty happy about the purchase and apply it without much concern to my kids as an additional sun protection to other methods, I discussed above. Just keep in mind the instructions and re-apply regularly and you are good to go...
