This seems to hold up well to sweat, in my opinion; I have never been swimming while wearing it. As for the tanning, I haven't encountered that issue by applying it relatively generously (about the amount that one would use when apply a moisturizing lotion - turns me nice and white and takes a bit of working in to the skin... then the white fades).
