My hair was originally dyed with just henna powder (light mountain) this is usually a semi permanent but as my hair is very porous it is permanent for me. I was getting bored with just ginger over my natural blonde. So I figured if this didn't work, no harm done. I've not bleached my hair in the slightest for over 4 years and grew every inch of bleached hair out. So yeah I'm pretty chuffed at this result as it means I don't have to destroy my curls with bleach to achieve a bright colour anymore. The answer is YES...Punky Colour products DO work on dark hair, but it is important to note that the final outcome really depends on the colour of your hair and the intensity of the tonality you wish to obtain. The full intensity of Punky Colour products doesn’t come through when using on hair with natural pigment which has not been “treated”. Although when used on dark hair it will create pigmentation, you will not get the same effect as when the hair is pre-lightened to some degree. There are two common options for pre-lightening the hair: a) Using a bleach treatment, or b) Using a good chelating shampoo to help remove build up and prepare the hair for colour.
