Review: The Closest Thing to a Raw, Vegan Meal - I think I've tried all the vegan protein powders out there. This is the first one that I didn't have to "settle" for. There are others that I like, but this is the only one that is truly smooth, and can be mixed with water, almond milk, or whatever without using a blender. I was amazed at that. Other reviewers comment on the taste. It is one you have to get used to. Americans are addicted to sugar, and to food, in general. For this reason our taste buds are compromised. We have been led by the media to believe that sugary cereals and other highly processed "foods" are "healthy." It is my understanding from all the recent research that sprouted beans, nuts and grains are full of life and health, particularly when they are "raw." I was pleasantly surprised by the ingredient list for this product when I found many sprouted foods. This powder is easy to digest, and I believe the nutrients are most likely easily absorbed and utilized because of the digestive enzymes and probiotics. I have trouble with my digestive tract, and I had no problems at all after drinking this shake. I generally like to use unsweetened almond milk and peppermint oil in my shakes. As far as I know the peppermint oil helps with digestion. And I like the taste. I'm glad I found this powder. I plan to take it camping, along with dried foods. The price is great through desertcart, and I always know that desertcart's customer service is unbeatable. They are one of the only companies I know of that allows you to talk to a person who is truly concerned about your satisfaction and will do anything necessary to prove that quickly. Thanks for carrying this product at such a great price. Update: I've tried even more brands since I wrote this review. I always come back to this one. Not for the taste, but for a few other reasons: 1. It's only 1 point on Weight Watchers. 2. I can always digest this, without any bloating or abdominal cramping at all. 3. I add my coffee to it for an iced coffee drink because the acid in coffee hurts my stomach and bladder. This product must be alkaline because it seems to neutralize the coffee acid. No stomach or bladder pain. The taste is not great and it's gritty. I put one packet of stevia in it. It's worth it to feel so good and it's so easy to stick to a Weight Watchers using this. I will keep buying this.
Review: Great for smoothies - After using Garden of Life's Raw Meal powder for awhile, I switched to their Raw Protein powder because it has fewer sugars (according to the label, less than 1 gram per serving). To me it seems to be a great product. But it doesn't taste good in water alone. So don't even try to drink it in water. Even in juice, it will probably be rather nasty tasting. Instead put it in a smoothie. I currently make the following smoothie almost every day: 1 scoop Raw Protein Romaine lettuce or spinach or kale -- a big handful of leaves, maybe more 1 or 2 bananas 6 frozen strawberries 2 - 3 tablespoons frozen blueberries 1 - 2 frozen beet slices (improves the color) 6 ice cubes about 1 cup rice milk (use enough to keep it from being too thick) 1 teaspoon almond butter (improves the texture) 1 teaspoon maca powder 2 - 3 tablespoons dried goji berries 1 teaspoon vanilla extract tiny amount of stevia powder (less than 1/4 tsp) for sweetening Blend it all thoroughly until smooth. This makes about three tall glasses. I drink the whole thing and love it -- the taste is delicious, and I think anyone would like it, not just raw food / vegan / granola crunchers. If you decide to try this and like it, it's worth buying a couple of fresh beets, slicing them into chunks and storing them in the freezer in a simple cheap plastic canister with a lid, so you can take out a few chunks when you make the smoothie. When I run out of one or more ingredients I make it without the missing item or I add something else I might have (cucumber is a good addition). You can reduce the recipe to just bananas, strawberries (or other frozen berries), lettuce, ice cubes, Raw Protein and maybe some sweetener (try an artificial sweetener if you don't have stevia) and water or milk, and it will taste great. Just don't add broccoli!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do the products being sold currently still contain the high levels of heavy metals?**
A: There's a 1 star review from this year (2019) of their Sport version that said it tested high in heavy metals:
https://www.amazon.com/Garden-Life-Organic-Plant-Based-Protein/product-reviews/B01N7DTD98/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewopt_srt?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=one_star&reviewerType=all_reviews&sortBy=recent&pageNumber=1#reviews-filter-bar

I don't trust Garden of Life brand anymore after Nestle bought it. Not only are the ingredients suspect, there's a lot less volume of powder in the canister than there used to be - total ripoff, and shows no respect for the customer. Read the critical reviews. Nestle destroyed what was once a great brand.

**Q: Is this protein cold processed? Would assume so if it is RAW but want to make sure, and also ensure there is no acid-processing.**
A: I hope this helps..."RAW matters because heat can denature proteins, reducing their availability to your body. But Garden of Life’s Certified Organic plant proteins are different—always gently produced at low temperatures, without any added fillers or carriers, preserving their complete amino acid integrity and whole-food, Certified Organic, Non-GMO goodness".

**Q: what countries are these ingredients sourced from? Is China one of them?**
A: It is not clear where their ingredients are sourced from but according to their website, they set a great standard for testing all products for pathogens, microbes, metals, etc. http://www.gardenoflife.com/Our-Company/Good-Manufacturing-Practices.aspx If this link doesn't show up, you can find this information on their website about all the things they test for. I would not be concerned if anything came from China with the extensive testing they do. They once recalled a multivitaming because it came in contact with a soy protein and those sensitive to soy could have had a reaction. I would say that was a pretty good concern and they tackled it. Compared to other companies out there, I wouldn't hesitate to use GOL. Why don't you call them and ask?

**Q: I ordered the Vanilla flavored powder, it has a really strong "Play-Doh" type taste and smell. Could this be a bad batch?**
A: I have one of their other products, Organic Plant Protein Grain Free. The vanilla it horrible. I just opened and smelled it, YES, a Play-Doh smell. I tried to add it to my waffle mix, from scratch, and I could not stand the waffles. I will try the unflavored since I want to add it to food.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quality ingredients and blends well
*by B***O on August 4, 2026*

I like this protein powder. The vegan ingredients with no sugar or artificial flavors added were very important to me. My smoothies turn out smooth with a great taste. I do detect a slight chalky texture sometimes, but is minimum enough as to not be a hinderance. This is my 2nd order.
