Review: Beautiful Translation, Beautifully Presented - First, to answer the questions I had. 1. Yes, it's a hardback book with a leather covering. Still, very nice. 2. It's bonded leather, but it has a nice look and feel. I can't attest to durability at this time. 3. The print is small bur legible, and the rabbinical notes are unobtrusive. I also own the JPS Tanakh. However, that translation is virtually indistinguishable from the NRSV Old Testament. I wanted a unique and different take. This delivers. The Rabbinical notes are largely unnecessary, but very useful in a few tricky spots. The poetic writings maintain an artful flow in the English language. The size is very comparable to a standard Bible with minimal cross refences or study notes. Hence, this is a very portable copy suitable for travel or carrying to Synagogue or what have you. If you're a fan of the Tanakh, or simply wanting a more literal translation of the Old Testament that remains true to the Hebrew language, I highly recommend this work of art. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Good Study Source *by R***N on September 4, 2013* I purchased the hardback version of this text and it has so far met all expectations. The book is beautifully assembled with a marker tassel and the pages are premium book paper instead of onion pages which increases the life of the text. The only thing I see as a fault is the text is normal size font so those who have trouble reading normal print will have issues with this. The Tanach is laid out as a good study companion with scripture assistance footnotes clearly separated on the bottom of each page, and so far is a smooth translation to modern English. Each chapter is distinctively marked with both the English name as well as the Hebrew name and a short summery before getting into the scripture. The book is by no means a hindrance to carry nor is it very heavy unlike some books I have come across concerning scripture. I am by no means a translator of ancient Hebrew so I can't have an opinion on how correct the translation to modern English is. But compared to the 4 to 5 translations that the modern Holy Bible has gone through with losing some of its meaning and integrity by crossing different languages I do have to admit that it is by far the easiest for a laymen to understand. An example of this is present in the common KJV which started as thus: Hebrew - Greek - Latin - German - English which with each translation something is lost or changed because of language barriers as well as names spellings because of additions or deletions of letters.
