The bearing mechanism feels much smoother and (hopefully will prove to be) more robust and harder wearing. As long as I remember to grease the bearing racer occasionally. So if you are a keen and regularly user, it's definitely worth the extra. I also changed it to using their thinner wire rope (the red or blue spares). The speed and the consistency I now achieve is clearly improved from previous purchases of other manufacturers. Their guide for rope length is good for newbs i guess, but as I'm already a regular user, I've found a personal length that matches my current ability, so would recommend you also play with the length before cutting, as you may find your optimum length does not match with their initial suggestions.
