Naturegrail Red Sandalwood Powder is ground heartwood of African padauk (Pterocarpus soyauxii), also known as barwood or camwood, a classic natural dye for warm red, rust and brown shades. How to dye: 1. Scour your fibers and pre-mordant them with alum (wool and silk take the color best). 2. Soak the powder in water, then simmer gently for about 1 hour. Strain through a fine cloth. 3. Add the wet fibers to the dye bath and keep it hot (not boiling) for 45 to 60 minutes, stirring gently. 4. Let the fibers cool in the bath, then rinse and dry them in the shade. Also used to tint natural soap, candles and paper. Not for consumption. Ingredients: 100% ground African padauk wood (Pterocarpus soyauxii). Net weight: 1.5 oz (42.5 g). Storage: dry, cool and dark.
