The elastic is fairly thin and it is smooth so there are few, if any, pantie lines. As I said, you do not have to wash these in a special delicate cycle, I have thrown the white ones that I have had for about a year in with all types of laundry. As a rule I line dry all underwear to extend the life of the elastic but I have not been as careful with these due to necessity and time. The elastic appears to be holding up just fine.As for size, At 5'4" and 170 pounds, I am probably at the top end for weight for a medium. If I were 180-185, I would need a large. They are a perfect fit.The white pair pictured are from the purchase a year ago to show how well they hold up compared to the new ones.
