TROPICA® - Coast Banksia (Banksia integrifolia) - 5 SeedsWorth knowing: Winterhardy to -8°COrigin: YellowPropagation: Put the smoke primer into a glass filled with 25ml of hot water and place the seeds into it for some hours. Now spread the seeds out and let them dry. Press the seeds about 0,5 cm deep into moist cultivation soil afterwards and leave them to germinate at 18°-25°C. The cultivation containers should leave a space of 12 cm in diameter for each seed so that the roots can develop thoroughly. Place containers in a partially shaded postition and keep them evenly moist until germination. Some species already germinate after 3-4 weeks,sometimes 10-12 weeks.Do not give up! After developing its first leaf pair, the seedling will also tolerate direct sunlight. The soil should stay loose and permeable and should not dry out completely in between waterings. Good air circulation is very important in order to avoid fungus infections. Add a quarter of garden compost when transplanting the young plants. Care: Protea and banksia are used to soil poor in nutrients. Fertilize only very little (about a third of the amount stated on the bottle). Tub plant fertilizer, guano or orchid fertilizer are suitable. Winter period: An outdoor position is possible from mid-October on. After that, a cool, however, frost-free and well-areated place should be chosen. The location can be half-shaded to sunny. Water seldomly now.
