Since the tent is 8 feet long, there is enough mylar material that you can use the included paracord to tie one end shut and use as a large 2-person emergency bivy. This is how we suggest using the shelter when there are no trees or suitable objects to tie up the paracord for use as a tent. **Q: how small is the tent when folded up?** A: It will fit in your hand . . . but it is really for bad times. It is a tube tent, meaning that neither end is sealed, but is open, and there are no poles to support it. You'll need 2 trees or some other means to support the corded roof line.
