This product is 50mg per unit, or twice the strength of standard, OTC strength (25mg) diphenhydramine. That said, most of the time when diphenhydramine is utilized as a sleep aid, it is supplied as 50mg gel-caps. The next best rapid disbursal system to gel-caps is in fact capsules, which is how this product is supplied. These are, in my opinion, at any rate, clearly superior to caplets or tablets, and I always make sure that I am in fact getting capsules. A 1000 count bottle of 50mg capsules for roughly twenty bucks is an unbelievably terrific deal and will last most people, well, a long, long time. Although I won't specifically mention the specific expiration date and the purchase date of this particular bottle of diphenhydramine I'm reviewing here given the inherently changing nature of such information and the chance that you may well wind up with a bottle that falls drastically short of this particular product, I am comfortable saying that the expiration date was considerably forward of the date that I purchased this bottle.I utilize this product for all of the uses stated in the foregoing, but I also keep them on hand to use for my dogs in the event of venomous snakebite. Given that I reside in south Louisiana, this is not at all an uncommon occurrence for my dogs. In fact, all three of my current dogs have been bit by venomous snakes: two by copperheads and one by a cottonmouth. When they are bitten, I immediately dose them with diphenhydramine and prophylactically treat with an injectable antibiotic as soon as is practical.
