## Description

This adapter is the easiest way to add a serial port to your computer. Many PDAs, digital cameras, GPS units, barcode scanners, and other equipment require a serial connection and many newer computers don't have serial ports. This fully plug and play adapter is perfect for people with the latest high performance USB only computers. Includes a 32" long USB extension Cable

Review: Excelent device - I have owned multiple of these devices. Each one I have owned was for work and each one was passed on to a co-worker when their old laptop that had an RS-232 port died or when their USB to RS-232 adapter failed. Some of these failed adapters my co-workers used did not work because windows was not able to load drivers automatically. Instead of searching for proper drivers I pulled this device out of my tool bag, plugged it in and they were able to use it within a few minutes with no searching and no trouble on any windows PC I have tried(XP, Vista and 7). The only thing I recomend would be to get a good USB extension cable with it as the small 3 foot one is to short for some situations, if you wont need anything longer the cable did work. I also recomend getting all the adapters you need for this to work for multiple interfaces, the three I purchased were the gender changes (both types) and a NULL modem adapter. I had to get two gender changes for situations where I needed some extra lenth at the RS232 end. But why I still give this 5 stars is for the fact that it doesnt have the female screw down ends on it, so it works with one particular piece of equiment we have that has the female screwdown lugs on it, they dont mesh up if you have two female sets of lugs on them and you have to take them off of the adapter.

However, it behaves strangely when continuously transferring a lot of data- I think this may have to do with the lack of asynchronicity mentioned in another review. This was tolerable until it stopped being recognized, and started getting very hot to the touch. I unplugged, rebooted, tried again, and had the same result- Windows didn't recognize that a device of any kind had been plugged into the usb port, and the device got very hot. I'm still giving three stars because I think that I either got a lemon, or static discharged it to death.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Little Device

I use this on my Windows 7 laptop when I needed to interface with an old Garmin Etrex GPS unit. I use it for taking some measurements in laying out fiber and wireless plans in New Hampshire to get a rough estimates o0f system layouts and I decided to use my old TROPO software as well rather than buying and installing the new software. It was installed instantly under Windows 7 and operated flawlessly. This is a very inexpensive way to keep some older equipment and software around. It installed so seamlessly that I was surprised since I did not even need the disk. That is one of the better features of Windows 7. My only advice is be sure to remember what COM Port was installed, it was COM 4 on my system so I had to rest the TOPO software.
