A handy EL backlight makes for easy viewing in any light conditions and turns on automatically with the tilt of your wrist. With solar power for added convenience and a water resistant depth of 660 feet (200 meters), this rugged and reliable timepiece is also shock resistant. Casio With the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market. Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, atomic timekeeping means the users never have to reset the time. Recently, Casio launched a series of Bluetooth watches that sync to the users cell phone to automatically update the time. Casio is always moving time forward.

Review: I am very happy with this watch - I am very happy with this watch. This is my first Casio G-Shock and so far, I love it. I think the size and shape are just right and I like the functionality. I was a little worried that it might be a little big and bulky on my wrist but I think it fits just right. I have an average size wrist and the watch doesn't look abnormally big on me. I really like the solar function. I wore Timex Ironman watches for years but changing the batteries was such a hassle due to the difficulty in getting the back off with the wrist band in the way. And I had to replace a couple of watches when I didn't get the back sealed properly and water got inside. I'm hoping that with this solar powered one, battery replacement is a thing of the past! It really doesn't take much effort to keep the battery fully charged. When I got the watch in the mail the battery level was at the third level (of four), or the level just below full charge. Initially it took a little bit to get the charge up to full and it went back and forth from full charge to down a level a few times over the first few days. I'm assuming the watch had been sitting in a warehouse out of the light for who knows how long so it probably needed some extended light exposure to fully charge. After a few days I was careful the expose the watch to direct sunlight for longer periods and that brought the charge up to full and it stayed there. Since then I haven't made any special effort to expose the watch face to light (sun or electric), just the exposure it gets through normal everyday use, and it has stayed fully charged. I've been really happy with the atomic timekeeping as well. The instructions go to great lengths to explain how you need to position the watch a certain way on a window sill at night so that the watch can receive the time keeping radio signals. It sounded like it was going to be a real pain since I prefer to sleep with my watch on. So far my watch hasn't missed the signal once even though it stays on my wrist in bed at night. I imagine that results might vary depending on where in the country (or world) you live and what the surrounding terrain is like. I live in the northeast US and in pretty hilly terrain but so far, no problems with reception. Other than those specifics, I like the overall look and function of the watch. I was concerned the numbers might be a little small but so far that has been fine. Figuring out the controls was not difficult. I did read the instruction manual to find out about some of the specific functions but overall I just played with the buttons a little bit and most of it is pretty intuitive. I've only had the watch for a few weeks so I can't speak toward it's long term durability but it definitely seems very well constructed and I look forward to many years of service. It looks like the band is relatively easy to replace should the need arise. Overall I think it is a great watch. If you are looking for something that is functional and durable, I highly recommend the G-Shock GW6900-1!
Review: Takes a Beating, Keeps on Ticking - If Bruce Willis in Die Hard were a watch, he’d be the Casio G-Shock GW6900-1. This thing is tough. I’ve smacked it on door frames, dropped it off a ladder, submerged it in questionable water, and it just looks at me like, “That all you got?” Let’s talk features: solar-powered—so it charges with sunlight (or probably moonlight if it’s feeling generous). I haven’t thought about batteries since I put it on. And atomic timekeeping? Yeah, it literally syncs with satellites so it always knows what time it is, even if I don’t. It’s more punctual than I am. The backlight is bright enough to guide a lost camper back to civilization, the buttons are easy to press even with gloves on, and it just looks cool. Like, “Yes I do tactical stuff on weekends” cool—even if the most tactical thing I do is grill burgers in the backyard. Honestly, this is the watch you buy when you want something that works flawlessly, looks rugged, and could probably survive the apocalypse. Or at least your next clumsy moment.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Mine arrived with dead battery. 3 days in full sun still isn't on hi. lithium-ion shouldn't be kept long term at 0%. will mine never go to hi??**
A: Yes it wil get to high. Sometimes it can take up to 7 to 10 days in direct sunlight. I have 9 solar atomic gshocks. And l had the same problem with one it took 5 days in outside sunlight. I live in Florida with plenty of Sunshine. Believe it will charge high.

**Q: Can anyone tell me if these are legit or if they are fake?**
A: I bought my Mudmaster G-Shock from Amazon this year (2020) and it's legit too. I was initially worried about the same issue and I'm pleased to say it wasn't a problem at all.

**Q: does the gw6900-1 have the auto-calendar function?**
A: Yes. The calendar updates automatically with the time each night when it syncs with the atomic signal. Is that what you meant? In other words, the watch has never been on the wrong date since the day I bought it. And I have two of these that work perfectly.

**Q: Does the watch have a button for the light?**
A: The watch has an auto illumination feature where when you tilt the watch toward you the face illuminates. However, I am not aware of a manual button to turn on the light. You might want to go online and find the users guide and examined it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Everything I wanted in a watch, and more!
*by A***. on January 11, 2011*

For the record, I am by no standards a "watch guy," and have never been. But recently, I have wanted a watch but wanted a watch that would be rugged yet also show the day, day/month, and time, along with a few timers and such, and this watch has ALL OF THAT and more! My mom bought me this watch for Christmas. I knew I wanted a watch, so I did some research on Amazon and knew I wanted a Gshock. After lots of researching, and a lot of review reading, I told her to get me this Atomic Gshock...and it was the best choice for me! I've had it for almost 3 weeks now and I absolutely love it. Being a solar-powered watch, it is a little picky but just read the manual and you will know how to make it work great. Basically, just make sure it gets some sun light every now and then, and put it by the windowsill at night, and your good to go! Durability/Reliability: I have been on two backpacking trips so far, both of which temperatures ranged from 30 degrees during the day and 10 degrees at night. With the temperatures, chopping wood, being by the fire, hiking, snowing, getting it wet...this thing survived everything so far. I even put it in the snow overnight to see if it would survive the cold/wet, and it did. This was about a week ago and it is still going strong. It is obvious that these Gshocks can go through a lot, which is good for me as I am frequently doing outdoor activities such as hunting, hiking, kayaking, and shooting. Oh, which by the way, this Gshock handles the recoil if guns fine. I have been to the shooting range 2 times since I have had this watch, and it has been fine with numerous calibers all the way up to a .357 mag revolver. Comfortness: This watch is very comfortable. The band is "resin", which I believe is a very hard/durable rubber. Some people complain of some Gshock bands being uncomfortable, this watch is ANYTHING BUT. I have worn it everyday for 2½ weeks and at no point have I find it to be annoying or uncomfortable. At the same time, I think some people wear watches too tight. In the manual, it says it should be snug but loose enough to wear you can slide a finger between the band and your skin, which is exactly how mine is worn. Appearance/size: I personally think the size and look of the watch is perfect, no too small and not too big. I like how the time size is big, so is the day. This makes it super easy when I need the date for a document or the time if someone asks. I get A LOT of compliments on it, especially since I never wore a watch, so now when friends or coworkers see it on my wrist, they immediately say, "nice watch! when did you get that?" The look is rugged, which goes along well with my wardrobe (outdoorsman), yet also goes well with nice outfits. I don't think you could pull off wearing this watch with a suit, as you would want more of a stainless steel "nice" watch for that, but hey, this watch does look THAT good that I would try wearing it with a suit :D The watch has a bright LED background light with you can turn on manually, for 1 or 3 seconds for it to be on for. This watch also has a cool "auto light" mode, which when your in low-light, the watch will turn on the background LED light when you bring the watch up to your face to see the time (must be 45 degrees). This "auto light mode" can be turned on and off. This is a really cool feature, which I find using frequently at night, especially when I am outside chopping firewood, fishing, hiking etc. The three circular indicators on top are (from left to right) - amount of solar energy watch has (high, med, low), middle circle has the different timers, stopwatches, alarm settings, and the right circle is seconds by 2's (2 seconds, 4, seconds, 6 seconds, and so on to 10). All of these settings inside the circle itself will light up if they are "on," which is awesome as you can easily see if any alarms are on and how much solar energy your watch has. So right now as I look at my watch, the "high" setting is lit up so I know that my watch has a "high" charge of solar energy. I have one (of 5 possible) alarms on, so one of my alarm settings is lit up as well. At work, I put the 'mute' setting on, so that will light up as well if it is on. If any are off, they do not light up. Now one important thing is when I say "light up," I do not mean they literally light up as if you were to turn on the LED background light. I mean they "bold" if you will. If you look at the images of the watch, you will see some of the settings on the 3 circular indicators at the top of the watch will be "bold" if they are on. This is what I am talking about. Overall: I rate this watch a 5 out of 5 for the almost 3 weeks I have had it. I thought I would wear it every now and then, but I find myself wearing it day in and day out, to work, going hunting, watching tv, everything. I love the way it looks and I love that it has the time/day/month and seconds, as well as the 3 circular indicators, all very easy to see. One thing I did not go into was the numerous alarm functions, stopwatch, timers and all that jazz. Yes, it has all of that, but I don't use them. All I use is the alarm settings, but I think i will use the other functions in the future. This watch is AWESOME, and if you want everything that I mentioned in my review in a watch (reliability, durability, nice appearance, solar-power, comfortability), then I highly suggest you get this watch! Let's just put it this way - if this watch breaks, screen cracks, or anything of the above in the future, I will be sure to buy another one in a hearbeat.
