This was a impulse purchase, and that is where I really recommend a customer does their research (unlike me). After the purchase I discovered this item elsewhere for about $50 less, and panicked, and tried to cancel the order. I was informed by the seller that canceling was only possible by not signing for the package when it arrived - this process was simplified for me (my neighbor signed - glad I changed my mind on keeping the item!) I ultimately decided that fifty bucks wasn't enough reason to complain too much about.I admit I cannot speak to the true quality of this item - I know very little about swords, swordsmanship, their metals, or manufacture. All I can say is this sword is very robust, has a quality feel, and the wood on the handle (I thought it was a wrap in the picture - the handle is like the scabbard, dark, black wood). The sword blade is said to be T10 high carbon steel, flame tempered. The tempered line on the blade is far less visible than in the example photo, but is there if you look really close. Blade comes well oiled, and it is my understanding that T10 steel, while suitable for strong blades, will rust quite easily if neglected (this is pure research, not any experience). The scabbard is a bit loose - it doesn't fall off when holding vertically by the handle, but a very slight move down, and it will slip off. I don't think this is a problem as long as I keep it in mind. Recklessly grabbing this sword by the scabbard would be unwise.Shipping packaging is really impressive - a layer of foam tightly wound with packaging tape. A bit messy to open (I slit the package from top to bottom with a pocket knife, then kinda popped the foam open to get at the cocooned sword inside) - the sword comes wrapped in a black cloth, then taped inside of that, and finally (like I said) a well oiled blade.This sword itself is a brute. The steel is pretty dang thick on the backside near the hilt. I'd say the balance point is about 6", 7" inches from the sword side of the handle - in other words the balance point is way out on the blade when holding the handle. I would guess that would make this a difficult sword to actually use - controlling all its momentum, and having the strength to wield it with any precision. The blade is most definitely sharp.I plan on ordering more swords from the China Longquan Xu Furen Sword co ltd - however, my future purchases will be more well thought out.
