The bag I bought had basmati rice with longer grain and nutty aroma and I am happy with it. **Q: Is it from India?** A: Not sure. Last time I ordered this item, it was old and did not taste good. Will not order it again. **Q: If I buy a bag, what is the shelf life in this product in a sealed container as well as prior to opening the bag?** A: I have never had a problem on shelf life. One time I bought a larger quantity and kept using it for three years. This time I cut it down to one bag and it is going fast. Also, this time I transferred the rice into a couple of gallon zip locks. The second bag I bought here. This is the best rice that I have ever tasted. The secret is in the aging process. The rice is aged for a year before being made available for sale.This Basmati is the longest-grained rice in the world. I have had grains of rice up to one inch long after cooking with this brand. The typical prepared grain is 5/8 to 3/4 of an inch long.I have eaten a lot of different types of rice, having grown up and lived most of my life in South Louisiana and South Texas. I have put down many, many meals of both Cajun and Mexican food, which are notorious for many rice dishes. I can for sure, that in my experience, no other rice tastes as well as Zafarani. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Truly . . . the best & only brand we buy *by T***S on Reviewed in the United States on 15 February 2014* If you like Basmati, we hope you will love this brand as much as we do. This is our 3rd bag. The quality, taste and length have been consistent. Very flavorful.The cooking instructions on the bag work well. When we are cooking for just the two of us, we normally cook 1 cup of rice, starting by putting the cup of dry rice in a colander, and rinse the talc off at least five times, and then set the colander of rinsed rice into a bowl of cool water and let it soak for at least 60 minutes and then cook it is a covered pot with a cup of water for 30 minutes. After cooking, and rice is sitting in the pot, we remove the cover, towel off the condensation from the inside of the lid, and recover the pot (repeating this every few minutes) about 4 or 5 times. Then fluff the rice and leave it in the covered pot.Even with the shipping cost added, the rice per pound is lower than the 1 or 2 pound bags of basmati in the market.
