To call it a rug, carpet, crawling mat, or anything that implies this is soft is misleading. I see now that the more elaborate description calls it 'cotton canvas', but this material feels just like a paint drop cloth. Not comfy.I had intended to use this as a play mat for a newborn nursery but it's just too rough so it will likely go in my older kiddo's playroom instead.That being said, it is otherwise as pictured. The texture is something similar to a thick muslin, definitely durable. Easily washable, but the printed world graphic loses it's quality, similar to a graphic printed t-shirt when washed. Darling rug and addition to the kids' playroom. We use it on top of the carpet in the room and on the wood floor in the living room. If you are looking for a soft playmates, this is not the one for you.
