So it could conceivably fit into a large backpack. However, it comes with it's own vinyl, zippered carrying case which has a shoulder strap. **Q: Can you change the ball head on this?** A: You can and I recommend trashing the original ball head. The quick release plate rattles and moves when installed, and the cork does not grip a camera very well so it will slip a bit. The head also droops badly when tightening down and releasing you camera. **Q: This does not appear to be a true "Ball Head."
