## Description

The AmScope SM-4TZ-144A professional trinocular stereo zoom microscope has a pair of 10x super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces, a 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective, two Barlow lenses, and a double-arm boom stand. The microscope has an overall magnification range of 3.5x-90x. The trinocular viewing head has an interpupillary range of 55 to 75mm, a 45-degree inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and 360-degree rotation to enable sharing. The vertical trinocular port can be used as a C-Mount or 23mm photo port (camera sold separately). The WH10x20mm super-widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces combine with the 0.7x-4.5x zoom objective to provide continuous zoom magnification and a longer working distance for inspecting large-scale specimens that require handling or repair. The microscope comes with 0.5x and 2.0x Barlow lenses that can be added to the objective to increase the magnification range. A Barlow lens with a magnification of less than 1.0 reduces magnification and increases the working distance, while a Barlow lens with a magnification greater than 1.0 increases the magnification and reduces the working distance. High-eyepoint eyepieces ease viewing for users who wear glasses, and dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. A stereo microscope, sometimes called an inspection or dissection microscope, has low magnification and a long working distance that enables users to manipulate the object being inspected. The removable 144-bulb LED ring light has four separate zones to independently control light intensity and direction. The ring light provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens, and shadow-free illumination. A rheostat controls the amount of light emanating from the lamp. Power and adjustment controls are located on a control box to speed adjustments. The ring has a 2-1/2" (64mm) inside diameter and a 4" (100mm) outside diameter. It has a 100,000-hour life span and a 110V-240V variable power supply. The microscope has a double-arm boom stand that enables users to position the microscope head on all three axes (X, Y, and Z). Bilateral focus eases use for left- and right-handed users. The stand has 20" double arms, and a 30" overall length. The pillar is 17" and the focus rack has a 3" diameter. The solid cast-steel base is 2 x 8-1/4 x 10-1/4 inches (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back).SpecificationsHeadTrinocularMagnification range3.5x-90xZoom objective power0.7x-4.5xEyepieces (DIN, 30mm)WH10x20mm high-eyepointTrinocular portC-Mount or 23mmField of view2-1/2"Optical working distanceUp to 8"Microscope standDouble-arm boom standHead movementX-, Y-, and Z-axesIllumination typeEpiscopic (reflected)Light sourceFour-zone 144-bulb LED ring light with rheostatPower110V-240VMicroscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. Review: Great hobby scope! - I purchased this for my hobbies in geology and archaeology and it has been outstanding - with a couple of caveats. This microscope has no stage, and many of my specimens are too small to see without raising them to the lens, so I had to solve for a workable stage that I could set rocks and other hard sharp objects on. I ended up using a small laboratory jack (Sold on desertcart as well) for the stage allowing me to put a specimen on it and raise it to the approximate required level, and then using the microscope for the final adjustments. This has worked out perfectly. I read about the horizontal rails on a similar model becoming pitted due to being undersized for the bearings rolling against them. With this in mind, I always carefully apply upward force to the heavy end before rolling it and have seen no pitting. No sense taking any chances - I want this microscope to last. The lens are perfect for my hobbies, and the ability to zoom is especially useful. The light source is really useful as well - it is bright and you can adjust the direction of the light by turning off some of the LEDs. The unit is incredibly big and heavy - I didn't realize just how big and heavy until I assembled it and then decided to move it. It was too long to fit in the appointed spot in my lab, but luckily because it will turn every which way, I ended up sitting it up sideways instead of longways and it works fine. You will have no problem with the unit accidentally moving (unless of course the table its on collapses!) as it is very heavy. I purchased this unit with the idea of someday attaching a camera, but have not done so as yet so I can't speak to that function. Movements are all smooth and have a professional feel to them. Overall this has been a wonderful purchase with one small hitch... You must assemble the unit from several parts - and the manual that came with my unit did not apply to the microscope I purchased. Weird. Most of the assembly was straight forward and being a man (I hate to ask for help) I finally figured out the few odd attachments you must make. Overall it was a fun puzzle to solve, but most people would likely prefer to either receive the correct assembly instructions or look them up online. It took about 30 minutes to assemble (and most of that was scratching my head over 1 part).
Review: Amazing! - Insane value!!!! Love the 4 way LED light (Super super useful feature). I would not buy without that. Optics perfect. Razer sharp and clean. No diffraction of light. Only issue is when you zoom, you have to refocus and also tweak one of the 2 eye diaopters. I think this has to due with CCD/Cmos access port. Small inconvenience considering how this is built. After a few tries I don't think about it. You can move all the controls without looking. Another huge plus is that you can position the scope in any conceivable direction. The base is also soooo heavy!!!!!! Rock stable even pulled out all the way.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does this unit measure parts?**
A: Yes, through the software that comes with it. It's best to download the latest version from AmScope's web site though, and you need to calibrate it with the included calibration slide. I have found that at high magnification I can reliably get to .001" accuracy but because it is using the left lens there is a slight skew to the image, tilting the part slightly or rotating the head can eliminate that issue, but then if you are looking through the right eye piece that image will be more skewed. That said, small price to pay for the functionality you are getting, to get better optics a Nikon or Leica will cost you $5,000-$10,000 to do the same thing.

**Q: Can you purchase software to capture still's using this scope? Also does anyone recommend good software for it?**
A: If you purchase the AMScope camera, the software comes with it, not only can you capture images with it, but you also get fairly accurate measurement capabilities included too, just make sure to get the newest version of the camera, older ones have slower refresh rates.

**Q: The specs list the shipping weight as 61 pounds, while the item weight is 3.2 pounds. Why the difference?**
A: No idea - looks like a typo. The one we have is a beast - I know as I tried to move it from one table to another just yesterday. If you stick with the 61 pounds as the item weight you won't be far off.

**Q: Does the inluded ring light cast a blue light as photo's appear or is it white light? I have a ring light that is useless due to it's blue cast throw.**
A: The photo shows it incorrectly. It is cool white 6,000K tone or maybe 5,800K. I think they were trying to convey that it is an LED light not a halogen light. It is not blue at all. Brightness and zone are adjustable but color temperature is not.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you’re looking for a microscope for watches, look no further This is the full bundle!
*by A***E on May 30, 2024*

I could not be happier with this scope. It’s a luxury compared to using a loupe to do watch services. I actually enjoy using it. It’s well made and packaged and DID come with a QR code for all the instructions you need. This is a US based company and the instructions are well laid out in PERFECT English. I can completely work under it and haven’t had any problems so far. For the money, I would happily take the Pepsi challenge against more expensive microscopes, confident it would win. You cannot go wrong purchasing this. It obvious Amscope know what’s it’s doing and I wouldn’t hesitate purchasing other products from them. Yeah, it’s that good.
