### ⭐⭐ Terrible Support and Documenation
*by M***C on October 12, 2015*

Although the product appears to be reasonably well-constructed, the documentation and support is terrible. Even though the seller has a US shipping site, this is still a China product. I had what I thought was a minor problem, but the local US reps were completely clueless about their product and how to get any spare parts. Everyone needs to be aware that these low-voltage irons come in at least two heater types, The plugs and wires may look interchangeable, but that does not mean they are. There is no information or documentation from the seller to guide you on this. If you make the wrong choice, you will melt your iron. This is a pretty common theme from China-direct sellers. Without a US firm handling the design, distribution, documentation, support, and QC, you are at risk for problems that have little or no source for assistance.

### ⭐⭐⭐ What can you expect for the price?
*by K***R on April 21, 2014*

My philosophy on cheap tools is that if they don't work, you've made a relatively inexpensive mistake; if they work, and you're an occasional user, you've saved some money; if you are a serious user, better consider something else. I got this unit because I have an electronic project I have been planned for a while, and I wanted something better than the generic 20W iron I've been working with. But I will be an occasional user. By the way, I made my purchase way in advance, so I could deal with a "Dead On Arrival" without my timeline being impacted. It should be noted that, of all the "852+" units offered by several vendors, this was the cheapest at the time of my purchase. Here's what I would offer if you're condidering buying one yourself:1. Look at all the other "852+" reviews first. These 852+ are marketed under several names. The units are all substantially the same, they only appear to vary in minor details. So what's good for one is probably good for the others.2. The caution sticker that tells you to remove the pump shipping screw is misleading. None of the screws are marked. It says to remove the M5x10 screw, but you can't tell by looking at the head which screw is M5 versus M4. The only M5 screw is 15 mm long (versus 10). Pretty annoying, huh?3. The instructions are ridiculous. They are not informative, the graphics are less than adequate, and the language is, to say the least, unintelligible. No place where they refer you to a web site to learn more. You get the feeling that you're pretty much on your own.4. Neither of the holders works that well. The one for the hot air gun is acceptable at best, the one for the soldering iron is flimsy and unsubstantial. You need to fasten it to a more substantial base for it to be useful, and even then you need to get the iron in there just right for it to be held in place with any hope of not falling out.5. The "IC Chip" tool it comes with is useless. They could have improved the instruction instead of including it.6. The packaging is decent. Styrofoam all around and a cardboard box on the outside. It can probably absorb some mechanical jolting in transit.7. There is a sponge to clean your tips. Other manufacturers offer copper pads, but only in their more expensive models. If you buy one of these separately, it will cost you about one seventh of what this unit is worth. Now the big question. How well does it work?In my unit, everything works the way it's supposed to. I can't comment on how accurate the digital readouts are, or how quick the iron heats up with respect to other manufacturers' products, but the controls are intuitive and seem to do what they were intended to do. You can't preset your temperatures like in more sophisticated units (i.e., there is no memory) and the readouts are in centigrades, which doesn't bother me but may bother others. How well it will hold up to use is another story, but one I can't tell for the time being. I will revisit if I have something good or bad to say. All in all, 3 stars is a fair rating for what I got. Works ok (for now), but if I were a professional, or even a serious hobbyist, I'd be looking elsewhere.
