I built a small duct system into the ceiling for this purpose when finishing the basement and originally used two axial propeller-style fans - one on each leg of the system, heading to opposite sides of the house you could barely feel the air coming out of the register - if it was coming out at all.after one season, I ripped out the axial fans in favor of these radial blower. it is like night and day. the first one I installed nearly blew the hardwood floor register cover off the floor. I wound up buying a speed controller to slow it down actually. the other register is the standard metal carpet type and I love the high flow rate. noise is nothing more than the sound of a motor hum and blowing air. anyone who expects these to be quitter than they are is essentially wanting to redefine the laws of physics.the only reason for not getting 5 stars is the poorly written instructions. its pretty obvious how to hook them up, but some detail on how to use the mounting brackets would be nice ### ⭐⭐⭐ This is a blower so it does a fantastic job of pushing air through restrictive duct unlike a ... *by D***N on Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2014* Moves a ton of air. This is a blower so it does a fantastic job of pushing air through restrictive duct unlike a fan will do.I would call this fan both loud and quiet. It is quiet for what it is doing. In free air it is fairly noisy. If you put soft duct on both in and outlet it quiets down substantially but is definitely still audible. Many would not want this in or around their living space as such.I ended up returning it as it was frankly way too much air movement for my application and it was just too loud for me.I did a ton of researching regarding fan speed controllers for this and my best understanding is this is a shaded pole induction motor. That means it is brushless and most of the fan controllers are not designed for it. In general, a variac or other rheostat would probably work but will likely cause hum, startup issues and reduced life. I'm not an EE so take that with a grain of salt. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Inline Air Blower *by W***S on Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2012* Ordered the Air Blower for a resin shed to try and reduce the heat that it was generating inside. The shed is 15 feet long by 8 feet wide. First off, the Seller shipped the item in record time .... arrived sooner than estimated. That was excellent.
