Review: Sony has a winner with this outstanding turntable! - I can't say enough about how pleased I am with this turntable. Being a baby boomer I have owned a few turntables during the era of component stereo systems. I abandoned vinyl with the introduction of CD's. I do stream music but have come to re-appreciate vinyl and it's physicality. This is a perfect turntable for my needs. I love the minimalist design, the easy bluetooth pairing (literally within two second after initial pairing) and it sounds fantastic with my Bose sound bar and subwoofer. I don't buy into much of what the vinyl fanatics say about only using traditional RCA connections , receiver/amps and floor speakers for pure sound. I don't have the space for all that anymore, Why not embrace technology that's easy to use, sounds great with a much smaller footprint? I have found that when records don't sound very good it's more of an issue with the pressing or mastering than with the equipment it's played on assuming you're using decent equipment! I also don’t believe that manual turntables are essential to the vinyl experience. Just place the record, give it a light brushing, push a button, let the automatic turntable do it’s thing. I did make two upgrades. I replaced the neoprene platter mat with a rubber one. The Feir mat sold here on desertcart is a great replacement at a minimal price. I placed it upside down so it has the same flat look as the original neoprene mat, with no sound degradation. I also replaced the included conical stylus with an upgraded elliptical stylus from LP Gear. That item is not sold on desertcart but direct from the manufacturer and is a smart add-on for about $50. I agree with others regarding the hard wired-in RCA cables. It would have been nice to have plugs instead and add the cables if you need them, but that is certainly not a problem. Just tuck them away out of sight. I disagree with reviews that say the that the mostly plastic build is "cheap." The design of the turntable far outweighs the well concealed fact that the unit is plastic/aluminum. Cleaning tip: to clean dust off the dust cover without scratching it, dampen a soft cloth or microfiber towel with water and "blot" the top of the cover instead of wiping it You'll pick up the dust and not leave any unsightly scratches. Enjoy your purchase!
Review: Excellent first turntable! Easy to use, USB, Bluetooth, RCA outputs. - If you're looking for an aesthetically-appealing, idiot-proof turntable that will sound shockingly good for its price while affording tons of playback flexibility, don't hesitate on the Sony PS-LX310BT. I have thousands of dollars of audiophile-grade headphones, but I had never been interested in vinyl. Then my wife realized she could collect Taylor Swift records AND listen to them with my equipment. So I was tasked with finding a reasonable entry-grade turntable. I ended up going with this Sony due to a number of factors. Sony is a reliable brand. I have never had a Sony product I didn't feel was at least mid-tier in terms of quality, if not premium. They have just never disappointed. Overpriced at times - perhaps, but never a letdown. That trend continues with this turntable - and I think it's an insane value compared to its competition in terms of features as well. Simple and easy to use. Having seen spooky stories of damaged vinyl and equipment in forums, as a first time, this was important to me. But it's pretty easy once you're familiarized. You put a record on, you remove the stylus cover, you turn it on, press start, and it just goes until the side is complete. When it's done, it auto-stops. It's great. Apparently lots of turntables don't auto-stop, and can damage your vinyl or "stylus tip" (there's a technical term I'm not recalling). Oh, and want to pause or change the spot on the record? There's a raise/lower toggle to allow you to do either! Flexible playback options. I can hook it up to my amplifiers via either USB-B or RCA, and they sound impressively similar. My wife loves using the Bluetooth for our living room soundbar. I wouldn't stress about which one sounds better, you're likely limited by your vinyl at this point. Dynamic range seemed the same to me. Excellent sound quality. I have no reference point for other turntables, but playing out of our high-end Samsung soundbar via Bluetooth, Taylor's vinyl sounds as good as our lossless music sources like desertcart Music HD and Apple Music. I couldn't discern a difference easily. On an audiophile headphone setup, such as my HDV 820 and HD800S combo, there is some dynamic range and soundstage expanse missing between Taylor Swift's 24-bit/44.1khz digital masters. But this more likely a limitation of the vinyl press, than the turntable itself. I'm not a fan of the pops and hisses - and they're there, but as soon as music gets rolling, you forget about them / don't hear them until it's quiet/silent again. I also don't care for a specifically warmer sound that people love from vinyl, and there's a touch of this, but I didn't feel like it was overly-coloring the sound. Dust cover! You can remove this too, if you prefer the aesthetic, but we live in Arizona, and our house is dusty minutes after cleaning it. Must-have. What I didn't like. - Power button location: I wish the power button wasn't on the back-side, but it's easy enough to feel and find. - RCAs hardwired: Probably my biggest complaint. I wish the RCAs weren't hardwired in. Would have preferred just female jacks like the USB output, and utilize a provided cable. Were these to get damaged, you'd have to have the unit rewired/repaired. but I just keep them cable-managed, and it's fine. Just keep out of reach of your puppies, cats and small children. In summary, I'm convinced there's no better option for a turntable under $200 (at time of review). You get wireless with USB, analog with RCA and digital with USB. It's easy to use and has fail-safes to avoid damaging the equipment and records. Sony has produced a good looking, thoughtful, value-laiden turntable in this PS-LX310BT.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this product work with apple airpods because of the bluetooth capability?**
A: No, the turntable will not work with airpods or any other headphones, because you cannot control the volume.

Quoting from the PS-LX310BT manual, page 14:
"Note
Do not connect to headphones for which you cannot control the volume. Audio tracks may be played at very loud volumes."

Whether they *will* pair or not, I can't say, but you won't be able to use them that way.

Incidentally, you cannot pair it to a computer via Bluetooth, either. I was hoping to play via my computer's sound system, and record that way, but from the manual (p. 15): "You cannot pair your turntable with smartphones, TVs, or computers. ..."

The only thing it seems meant to work with are stand-alone Bluetooth speakers. That's what I'm using now (just a little cheapo speaker), and it's working great. Time to buy a decent set of speakers, I guess.

**Q: I have one of those vintage look crosley turntables... Love the look but the sound is horrible. I’m hoping this can do better. Anyone know?**
A: This will sound significantly better than a cheap record player with a ceramic cartridge, which the Crosley certainly is. This record player does not have a caring handle, and does not come with speakers. It does have great sound.

**Q: I am getting some serious humming from this. Since there's no ground plug or any other ground I can see, is there any other way to ground this?**
A: Hi, Dustin!

Unfortunately, there is no option to ground this unit. For humming or buzzing issues, please try to place the turntable on a flat surface and make sure that there is no play or it's not wobbly. If you've already tried this and the issue still persists, please email us at socialsupport@am.sony.com with the following details:

**Q: Hi, i'm wanting to purchase this but i live in nz which uses 240v power. will it work here and what plug does it come with? thanks**
A: Hi, Bridget!

The power requirement of this unit is AC100-240V 50/60Hz.

Jay
