The tip of the thermometer is very fine and can be slid into the meat effortlessly without leaving huge perforations. It is neatly clipped back to the side of the thermometer. When you turn it on, the thermometer turns on automatically and turns off when it is turned off. The screen is large and easy to read. This will replace the long narrow thermometer that lasts for several months! The screen on that screen is small and not very good. This is a different class. If you need a compact but easy to read thermometer, this is for you.
