desertcart.com: Bound by Flames: A Night Prince Vampire Paranormal Romance Novel eBook : Frost, Jeaniene: Kindle Store

Review: Love the Romance and Characters! - Jeaniene Frost writes some of the best paranormal romance that I have ever read, consequently her books are favorites for me. This series is a spin off from the Cat and Bones, Night Huntress books. It seems like forever that we have been waiting for this book, so I was more then happy when it was released recently. Leila and Vlad are a vampire couple that are trying to find Vlad's arch enemy, Szilagya. Since Leila can read essences on people's bodies that tell her who has touched them-ever, it's just one way they are trying to get information on his whereabouts. This involves her touching a lot of vampires to find traitors, not something that Vlad is happy about, to say the least. Pretty simple premise, right? Not even close. Vlad has the worse temperament of any main character that I have ever read. He's definitely not an easy character. He is, of course, the vampire that started the vampire legend from hundreds of years ago-Vlad the Impaler. So the reader should hate him? NO. His romance with Leila is one of my favorites that I have ever read. Watching the great Vlad succumb to Leila, and fall so hard for her, was the basis of a wonderful read in the first book, Once Burned. Leila was pretty much electrocuted when she was young, only she didn't die, but she did come away with an arm that is capable of killing with electricity. Needless to say, she doesn't date. With Vlad and the fire power in his body, she has found the perfect husband for herself, and now that she's a vampire, they have forever to spend together. But nothing in their life is easy. Szilagya has made it his mission to make their life hell. This book was really dark, and went places that might upset a squeamish reader. Not only is there a ton of violence, but most of it is in the form of torture. And torture is not something I am fond of reading about, to say the least. It's very telling that even after writing that, I can honestly say that I really enjoyed this read. If it hadn't been about Vlad and Leila, I might have put it down, but since it was, I was okay with it-not the torture aspects, but because I love the characters, and their romance. And also because of Ms. Frost's wonderful writing. As usual with this series, there is plenty of romance, adventure, and thriller aspects. Truthfully, I had a hard time putting it down at times. So it was a very quick read, one that I will have a hard time forgetting. I would recommend this to adult readers of paranormal romance, ones that don't mind violence in their read. Even if that does bother you, I still would suggest you try reading the first book, because of how good the romance is.(PureTextuality.com)4.5 stars!
Review: An exciting, action packed, angsty addition to this series - Leila and Vlad are on the hunt for the villain with the unpronounceable name again. While romancing. The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between Leila and Vlad, solid as a rock: I was trying to recall the last time I’d read a series that features one couple where their obstacles are external, instead of the battle against their “feelings.” I really love that Leila and Vlad, even though they clashed a little bit in the beginning of the book, didn’t wallow in anger and resentment with each other over some perceived slight or jealousy. They both tried to understand the other’s POV. Which was great, because... There’s some angst up in here: *mild spoiler alert* Leila is captured by the big bad, Miggy Azalea (that’s not his name but I could never say it or remember the spelling, so go with it) and there’s suffering to be done. It broke my heart, but I loved Leila’s resilience, and Vlad’s determination to save his woman. It’s angst, but it’s good angst that propels their relationship to a new level. Love the structure of the series: Points to Ms. Frost for not dragging things out and actually planning the next book to be the conclusion to this series. I had loved the earlier Cat & Bones books, but as the series went on (there were seven full novels and several novellas), it started wear thin plotwise and I wasn’t as big a fan of the final book. While Vlad is a larger than life character, I think four books is just enough to really explore his love story and to bid farewell to these characters. I’d really rather be left wanting more. Setup for the finale is great: Each book has gotten better, and the ways things end here, I'm eager to see how it all works out.Loved the introduction of a new foe, along with seeing Maximus again - what can I say I like the poor guy. Good series, but not really a standalone: Could you read this without reading the earlier ones? Probably, but there’s alot of little moments that will pass you by. Deja vu: My only real quibble would be the familiarity of Leila being captured, and running headlong into danger. There’s a purpose to it, but I would have liked to see her not be captured again. The Bottom Line I’ve really enjoyed Vlad and Leila’s romance, and I’m eager to see the conclusion...next year. Sigh.
