In particular, Is there a shield, and is that shield connected to pin 3 or is it separate (i.e. 6 conductors)?** A: To my knowledge, this is a standard 5 pin MIDI cable, with pin 2 being shield, pin 4 being voltage reference line, and pin 5 being data line. Typically in MIDI implementation pins 1 and 3 aren't used as they would be with a 5 pin DIN cable. However, 5 pin DIN cables can be used as MIDI cables, but not the other way around.
