I was in the process of weaning off low-dose antidepressants with the help of my doctor, and started using this 5-HTP to see if it'd help me sleep. Yup. After one week, I'm now weaning off sleep medication (25mg seraquel) - my neurologist will be thrilled. I fall asleep quickly, but still wake up once during the night, so I'm seeing what else to add to the nightly mix (I'm using additional GABA, which I was also deficient in, and am adding in time-release melatonin next).And a surprise bonus: I didn't realize that my body *wasn't making it's own 5-HTP*... because I'm off antidepressants completely as a direct result of taking this 5-HTP. I already weaned down to a low-dose of SSRI, but had to stop completely; my body started making its own serotonin thanks to this supplement! The difference for me was like night and day. Now my body makes what serotonin in needs, no problem. I haven't felt this good in yeeeeeeeears. I actually feel better than when on antidepressants. (Note: if you're on an SSRI, ***work with your doctor on this***. I had my doctor's full support, and I weaned off quickly from my already low dose, because my body responded so well.
