I let it sit with the citric acid solution for several hours and then thoroughly rinse. This is an effective antimicrobial cleaning method. The measurement markings also wear off. Short of extreme trauma, the only thing that can break on a Nalgene is the plastic loop connecting the top to the bottle. It's quite tough, but on larger bottles can break when the full bottle is routinely carried by the loop. With a smaller bottle, this is less likely. Why you should not buy this product: * You need a supply of water that lasts more than a few hours without refilling. * You want a non-plastic bottle. * You want an opaque bottle. For the last 2 decades I’ve loved their product, cheap- light and sturdy. Totally leak proof and ready for adventure. I’ve owned almost everyone of their products over the years and the reason I chose the 16oz barrow mouthed version is for a couple reason. 1. It was the right size- fits in a new backpack and light 2. My wife kept complaining that my old bottle was too hard to drink out of in the car or on the go 3.
