New submissives will find this a primer on how to get their needs met while curtailing a lot of BS from bad doms. Dominants will find this a way to keep dewy eyed new submissives from wrecking anyone's life with false expectations. I appreciate the emphasis on establishing and maintaining connection through constant communication. Fulmen, himself encourages readers to look at Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication. I've read, and continue to recommend The Loving Dominant. However, The Heart of Dominance is a more contemporary offering and more inclusive of diverse populations that comprise the kink community. After laying down some ground work for the reader to consider and work through, the author elaborates on six flavors of D/S and provides examples of how to explore each flavor. He notes that most folk in D/S relationships work with more than just one flavor. Fulmen has a wonderful writing voice, and interjects humor, making this a truly enjoyable read on top of being extremely informative.
