Review: Quest for better sleep. CO2 meter and Air quality meter to guide you in the right direction. - First impression is excellent. All measurements are displayed very clear, manual shows how to operate very clearly. As for accuracy, close enough for my non-professional usage. Now for a short story.. I've recently been on a mission to figure out why my sleep quality is so bad. I thought I liked to sleep in, but lately I really want to wake up early, but when I do, I just end up falling back to sleep for another couple hours. My room doesn't have a ventilation system, just door and window. I usually sleep with both closed. But after seeing the readings this morning, I will be changing that! According to the unit, good air is less than 700 ppm; normal air less than 1000ppm; poor air above 1000 ppm. CO2 readings before sleeping (closed door/window) were around 600-700ppm @ ~11PM CO2 readings this morning around 8am-9am.. 1500ppm!!! CO2 readings as I write this review with the window closed and door wide open and fan circulating air in the room, 537 ppm. Contradicting my findings, I did wake up feeling fairly well rested. I think due to the Germ Guardian air purifier running all night on low which I recently started doing to keep particulate matter low (only because my newly acquired Dylos air quality monitor displayed high readings ). Reasons for keeping window closed is dust and external sounds (cars/trains). As a possible solution for dust, I might look into a special window screen that blocks dust and other particulate matter. Included is a photo of my first reading in the morning waking up with closed door/window (CO2 reading showing ~1500ppm). Dylos air monitor shown with excellent air quality reading (HEPA air purifier was running all night on low). UPDATE #1: Night Two When the room is empty with closed door and window, the CO2 levels drop into the 400 ppm range. With one person sleeping in the room, CO2 increased to 1000ppm in about 3 hours. Opening a window slightly allowed the CO2 level to drop to around 850ppm. To reduce dust, I placed a Cut-to-Fit Carbon Pad for Air Purifiers in the window opening. This has slowed down the dust particles significantly. Will have to see how effective it is during the day. [update: this wasn't that effective during the day for PM2.5] UPDATE #2: about a year or two since the last update (whenever that was). I was motivated to update this review because of the real-time temperature reading. It's pretty accurate and fast compared to a cheaper digital thermometer I have. Seems like it updates every second. Also for room CO2 levels to be under 1000ppm, all I had to do was crack open the bedroom door about 5-8", this would result with stable CO2 level of 650-750ppm. The window in the bathroom would be open though. Now that it's summer time and hot, opening the window at night drops CO2 levels down to 400-500ppm. With these findings, anybody else looking to have lower CO2 just needs to open a window or keep a door open ajar. Having the data displayed in real time is pretty cool though.. wait that's not the right word.. nerdy. In terms of opening the window at night, I use the Dylos air quality monitor near the window briefly to check if I should close it. The PM2.5 reading is usually under 1000 (considered 'fair' quality). Using an air purifier would reduce that reading.
Review: Accurate. Saves settings when disconnected. An excellent CO2 Meter. - I'm a big fan of cutting edge research. When I found out that even moderate levels of CO2 can adversely affect higher level cognitive functions, like when designing software, I was curious. When David Heinemeier Hansson started to talk about CO2 and started finding the same studies, I became really intrigued and checked it out. First off, this is a really great meter. It does an excellent job of measuring CO2 in a room passively and alerting you to higher levels. But second, it really helps you inform ventilation decisions. Studio apartments, for instance, without central air, have really really bad air circulation. So, while the meter was initially used to verify that the environment was bad, I started using it to see if I was introducing enough air to mitigate the buildup. Even just cracking the windows open and letting some air flow in and out was enough to help cut the ambient CO2 level from 1200ppm to 800ppm, and with a fan and wider window opening, I can keep the environment at about 500ppm constantly. I don't have the alarm on anymore, but I do keep an eye on it and generally have adopted the policy of always having a window open, just for air circulation. Obviously this isn't the right move for everyone, but if you care about improving your mental processing, get a meter and start opening windows. Fresh air is really great. I don't know how well advertised it is, but this device has a really nice added feature: a battery backup for storing settings. This means that you can unplug it and move it to other outlets/locations and test the CO2 there, without actually needing to change alarm settings or the time each time.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the margin of error on this thing**
A: As long as it reads 300 to 400 outside it gives me confidence that it is fairly accurate. And it Alway has stayed in that margin outside. In a dark room you can see the infa red pulse every few seconds and seam to adjust corispodingly. Hope that helps.

**Q: Can this be used outside the US with 220v ?**
A: Yes, absolutely. This device comes with a variety of plugs for many different types of sockets. It also supports 220v, I'm using it in Russia with 220v.

**Q: Can this be used at 35 degrees F long term?**
A: Specs show -10 C (14 F) as lowest operating temperature. My Use has been at room temperature.

**Q: Does this unit have external sensors?if so how many,am looking for one to use specifically in a Greenhouse.**
A: This unit does not have external sensors, it is however still working great for me. For remote sensing, you may want to look at Lascar brand. I use one of their USB models for remote temp and humidity tracking, I am very happy with it. I know they make some models that track C02 as well.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Everything was packed well - no damage but easy to unpack
*by N***B on December 8, 2014*

I was looking for a CO2 meter and didn't want to spend an insane amount of money. This was the least expensive, decent looking one, so I purchased it. The meter arrived quickly - 4 days or so from the order with standard shipping. Everything was packed well - no damage but easy to unpack. I can't comment on accuracy since its my only meter, but the outdoor CO2 measurements are consistent with what internet research suggested they should be. I found that, the CO2 levels in my house start around 475 - 550 when I get home from work, raise up to 950 - 1200 by the time I go to bed if all windows and doors are closed. During the night the drop back down to 700 - 800 by the time I get up (I assume because I'm producing less CO2 when I sleep. The reason I bought the meter was that I was waking up with less energy than before in my new house. After searching around the web a bit, I became interested in CO2 accumulation. Based on the readings I got, I started opening a window in my bedroom for just a few minutes before going to sleep. This drops the CO2 levels to good/normal and they never raise above normal while I sleep. I bought a new pillow for better neck support at the same time, so I'm not sure which is doing the trick, but I feel better in the morning than I did before - not perfect, but very noticeably better. If nothing else, it is very interesting to see how CO2 accumulates in your house throughout the day. As other users have commented, the interface is not super easy to learn (- 1 star), but you really only have to set it up once (Plus an occasional outdoor calibration procedure). It takes 15 minutes to read through the instructions and get everything you need set. For an inexpensive meter, this would not deter me. I would buy again.
