It fits securely on my door and has not chipped, scratched or damaged the paint. It also has more grip area, compared to the original, so you can try an assortment of grips and be comfortable and feel secure while you workout. The slight angle on the wide grip(compared to the original)really helped alleviate the shoulder pressure I was starting to feel. The molding on my door is *maybe* 1/2 inch thick, it's more of a raised ledge than "molding"** A: Erin, the only thing that the molding does is let the bar hang on it. If you look at the picture you'll see a smaller, padded bar (gray in color) that's parallel to the actual pull-up bar, that padded bar rests on the top edge of the molding (the part you can't see, unless you're like 8' tall), which allows it to stay there when not in use. So...I guess you have to have molding at the top of the door for it to hang on, but physics-wise you wouldn't need molding to actually use the bar. My molding is no more than 1/2" in depth either, and it works great. When you do a pull up, the bar isn't really pulling down on the molding, as much as it's jamming the padded portions of the bar on both sides of the door. As I indicated I have seen no damage what so ever from this set up, and it's very sturdy. **Q: Does anyone know what thickness of the wall this pull up bar fits?** A: Our doorway thickness is 7 inches, and it works great. Based on the adjustment holes on the bar, it should work for (wall+molding) thickness 3 1/2 - 8 inches. Of note, the company advertises 27 inches as the minimum doorway width, but ours is 26 inches and the bar works great. The bar should be stable with much narrower doorways too, that is, doorways 17 1/2 - 35 inches wide should work fine. Other pull up bars have narrow fitting restrictions (doorway thickness 5-6 inches, molding up to 3.5 inches, doorway width 24-32 inches). The adjustment capability of this bar, to fit a wide range of doorways, makes this bar so great. **Q: will it fit on a 6" high molding** A: mine is 4" with plenty of room. 6" will work **Q: Which versiin is better, pro or standard. The pro version claims more grips but the curvy bars take up more space than the standard** A: I have the standard, and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. I do close grip, reverse grip, and wide grip chin ups. Also, I wouldn't be concerned about more space, since the bar is already a larger item. If you want the extra grips, get them. Used it twice *by M***N on March 25, 2015* Six weeks in, and this still works great using it 3x/wk. No marks or dents in my doorway trim so far. I like that it's adjustable; took a little longer to put it together but I think it's worth it in the long run. Since the pads don't rotate it's important to adjust it correctly or the pads won't lay flat and you'll dent your door trim. I'm 160 and it doesn't feel unsteady at all, though my pull-ups are very controlled and I don't swing. My doorway is 28" (opening size) with 3 1/2" trim width and it fits perfect; I have another doorway that's 32" (wheelchair width) and the pads only cover 2 1/2" on each side, which probably isn't ideal but could work if you're careful about staying centered. So I think the marketing that it's OK up to 35" doorways is a stretch - that leaves only 1" of pad against the trim, perfectly centered. The hardware seems a little cheap; the nuts look like they could be stripped if over-tightened. The foam and rubber feel pretty sturdy; we'll see how it holds up but for the price, i'd be happy to get a year out of it. I use it in combination with Body-Bands for wide grip/lat work. The Body-Bands do crush the foam in the middle where they loop around, but I guess that's no big deal other than aesthetics.
