Our previous cabinet was too long and heavy. We selected this item because it is made of plywood and solid wood, it’s easy to assemble, and we needed a wide center section for our vintage (1970’s) stereo receiver.We had the box delivered to our garage, as it’s quite heavy, and my husband unpacked it there and brought the pieces individually inside (as another reviewer suggested) and assembled it in the living room. The instructions are minimal but it’s so easy I’m sure I could have done it myself after he brought the pieces inside. UPS did a number on the box (photo 1) but it’s so well packed there was only a slight dent on the front top. We decided to keep it and skip the hassle of returning the top. The top is not finished on the back so we couldn’t switch it around and put the dent on the back.We think the unit is quite attractive although the finish has a deeper reddish hue than we thought, based on reviewer’s photos (photo 2). We’re not picky about this as we have many colors in the living room, anyway.The manufacturer states that the unit is made from veneered “layered” wood and solid wood, and that seems to be mostly true. The top is veneered plywood with solid wood moldings on the front and ends. The cabinet front doors and decorative slats on the glass are solid wood. The back is stained plywood but not veneered. The three adjustable shelves and bottom panels appear to be plywood with veneers. The two folding interior panels (ends of the center cabinet) are MDF, stained but not veneered.The approximate measurements for the component (middle) section are: 38” W x 21-5/8” H x 18” D. The center cabinet adjustable shelf has two solid wood strips underneath, running the length of the shelf to strengthen it (photo 3), but, even so, I wouldn’t put a heavy A/V receiver on it. The unit has one vertical narrow slot in the back for cables (photo 4, top shelf; photo 5, bottom shelf). This is the only ventilation, so when we have our receiver on, we leave the doors open a bit.A common question on cabinets with glass doors, is, will remotes work with the doors open at various angles? It is roomy, heavy, sturdy, has a decent finish, albeit a little too on the red side for my liking, easily went together, had plenty of room for other electronics, looks nice in my living room, holds 120 DVDs on the side shelves, accommodates my 55 inch flatscreen, and has enough room leftover for a 30 inch lamp and a pretty flower shaped decorative plate. Quite pleased with the purchase and you can't beat the price.
