Dr. Lilly, who was a pioneer in the field of electronic brain stimulation developed the first flotation tank in 1954. At that time, they were used exclusively for research. According to Joanne Hillyer’s research  there were 85 flotation centers in the United States in 2011 and that has grown to 250 flotation centers by 2018. In this book you will read about the many advantages of flotation therapy such as ease of arthritic pain, elevation of mood and energy, improved focus and mental development, as well as help with substance abuse and PTSD. Recommended for adults.

I had heard of isolation tanks before reading this book, but as someone who doesn't do well in small spaces I had already decided I would definitely not be using one. In any case, I got this book to satisfy some of my curiosities. I was pleasantly surprised at how much information is in this book, not to mention the pretty great writing! There seemed to be a certain reassuring tone to it. I'm still skeptical about these tanks, but maybe just a little bit less so.
