The Honey Cone were made up of three prominent backing singers: Carolyn Willis had been a member of Phil Spector's Bob B. Soxx,& the Blue Jeans, Edna Wright was a member of Ray Charles' Raelettes, and Shellie Clark had served time as one of Ike Turner's Ikettes. The Honey Cone released these four albums between 1969 and 1972 on the Hot Wax label. The booklet is fully annotated by Tony Rounce, and features many rare singles labels. Since I can only listen to a very little of Cardi B I'm very happy with the style of music on this album which is often in the same musical feel as Motown. Edna Wright had a great voice. The Honey Cone hits still stand up: Want Ads, One Monkey, Stick Up....and there are enough good songs to round out the four albums.
