Saint Toribio Romo González, also known as "San Toribio," was a Mexican Catholic priest and martyr. He was born on April 16, 1900, in Santa Ana de Guadalupe, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, and he died as a martyr on February 25, 1928. During the time of the Cristero War (1926-1929), a period of conflict in Mexico characterized by anti-Catholic government measures, Father Toribio Romo González became a key figure in supporting the Cristeros, who were Catholics resisting the government's persecution of the Church. Father Toribio was known for his dedication to his pastoral duties and for providing spiritual support to the Cristero fighters. Eventually, he was arrested by government authorities for his involvement in supporting the Cristeros and for his refusal to renounce his faith. On February 25, 1928, Father Toribio was executed by firing squad. He is considered a martyr for the Catholic faith, and he was canonized by Pope John Paul II on May 21, 2000, along with other Mexican martyrs of the Cristero War. Saint Toribio Romo González is venerated as a patron saint of migrants and those seeking refuge, given the challenges faced by many during the Cristero War. His feast day is celebrated on February 25th each year. The story of Saint Toribio Romo González is an important part of the history of the Catholic Church in Mexico, and he is remembered for his courage and fidelity to his faith in challenging times.
