At Work, and Talking to Skeletons.The first book, Radiologists at Work, is a compilation of radiology anecdotes from many different doctors, spanning a long history of radiology. They discuss the technology of the field, and how it has changed over the years. Author, Carolyn Jourdan pulls it all together into a cohesive treatise. Some of the stories are hair-raising, revealing ways that errors can be made, and the fear that seems pervasive among these diagnostic doctors: that they may miss something, or make a wrong diagnosis. The book provides lots of interesting information about the field of study and how the progression of technology has changed it.The companion book, Talking to Skeletons, is all Jourdan. Engaging and thought provoking, her prose is often like poetry in motion as she describes her behind-the-scenes experiences while shadowing a Radiologists over a fifteen year span. This is a personal story, introspective and often spiritual. Jourdan carries the reader along with her descriptive imagery. I recommend it to anyone, but especially anybody that works in healthcare, but doesn't or can't spend much time around the radiology folks. A radiologist one time told me his job was the best job in the world, and went on at length, enthusiastically, explaining why this was so. Personally, I think I have the best job in the world, but his enthusiasm wasn't lost on me.
