Has Drivers - Has Support. *by C***L on Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2019* To ensure a touchpad works properly with Windows it needs drivers. The default drivers Windows assigns to a touchpad don't always permit all of its functionality. I need kinetic acceleration. Other touchads I tried didn't give me this menu option. The Ergonomic one does. You can download specific drivers for the touchpad to get all the features. Oh, and if you can't get it to work - Ergonomic's support is top flight. The owner actually called me in about an hour to help me answer a question! This is the touchpad to get! ### ⭐⭐ Not optimal for my needs, unfortunately *by A***N on Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2014* This was purchased in my search for a different pointing device to my venerable Trackman. I've been using trackballs since the blue days of the early Trackman and after a good couple of decades my hand has started to develop some issues with the utilization of it. I use track pads on laptop computers and thought this might be a good version to try out for the utility of software and ease of use. This is a large, button-less track pad made to sit on an attachment point of velcro. As I've moved up to a quad monitor I have plenty of screen real estate to navigate and getting across the screen quickly is a prime concern right after the stress to my hand from using a trackball for so long. I expected there to be a ramp-up learning experience.First off the positions I can possibly use it in and around my desk (or even on my person) do not alleviate hand fatigue. Yes you can interface with the device with a light touch, just as the advertising points out... and yes you can get a hit or miss response from the device when you do so. Perhaps it is a not-so-hot unit because its ability to track my finger (or fingers) going across it is problematical. I have downloaded and worked with the software, put its settings to something closer to my accustomed use of track pads on notebooks and given this device a good, fair shake to actually work well.It doesn't.I can be tracking fine and, without lifting my finger and not being more than half-way across the screen, my pointer can suddenly jump to the other side of the screen. Or down. Or backwards to the direction my finger is going. Or up. This is bad behavior from a track pad! Bad track pad! Even worse is that because a light touch meant to alleviate ergonomic stress doesn't do well at getting a response, I have to use just a bit more force to get a bit more than just the tip of my finger on the pad which means, yes, curling my finger somewhat and getting the exact, same problem that I get with utilizing a trackball. Not good.Then there is the downloadable software, which really is quite necessary on non-Win8 machines. I like the general features for two finger scrolling! I wish it worked better because sometimes I'll have my two fingers on the pad to begin scrolling and it won't scroll at all. And when I try the dedicated sides for scrolling I have the exact, same responsiveness problems. At first I thought it might be a dry skin problem and used just a touch of hand lotion to get a bit more of the response I'm used to with other touch pads. Doesn't work, although this does help the skin out no end.One of the features that would be a great help is to implement a forward/back two-finger touch response for browsers. Really I could positively use that on a touch pad! That is if it was responsive. And that is a major problem with this device, responsiveness: it is either not responding at all or it suddenly decides to respond and then gets really responsive to motions you are not giving it.PROs- Decent size for navigating screen real estate- Relatively low ramp-up for learning if you already use touch pads- Thin but sturdyCONs- Responsiveness is either not there or all over the place, no difference between downloaded drivers or those with Win7U- Downloaded software offers some interesting features, but misses out on others- To get decent responsiveness (or any) requires more than pictured fingertip which means a slightly curled finger, thus non-ergonomic use to get a responseIf it worked well it would be a good device. It doesn't work all that well, unfortunately, and if you have anything beyond a tiny screen to work with that means you will end up lifting your finger up from the pad and no matter that you have a period of time to keep on tracking, it won't. That is a software issue and a possible hardware one as well, even with those bells and whistles turned on in the software (and that took research of the Glidepoint software, too). And you will have to get the software via download.This device is a general loser for my requirements and may see some use on devices with much less screen real estate. I've come to the conclusion that the modern WIMP interface requires actual, physical buttons on the Pointer device and no amount of software can make up for that lack. Only experience can teach you such things and I will chalk this up to a learning experience situation offering valuable insight into ergonomics and pointer control systems. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It does what it sets out to do *by A***N on Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2012* I have been using the large ergo touchpad and have been really impressed with it. Out of the box it's mediocre but if you get the drivers at [...] then it really does wonders. With the drivers you can adjust sensitivity, page scroll speed, sound effects and a bunch of other stuff to customize the touchpad how you want it. You can also use it in addition to your mouse which I have found to be quite nice. I would say that at $70 it is a bit pricey but it is far and away better than it's Logitech counterpart in that it does not have any dead zones and I don't have to futz with any wireless battery issues.
