A half to 1 hour later it's already helping to take the edge off nicely. Every time you light the heater the wick will need to be adjusted. There is only one optimum height for the flame, and so, only one optimum heat output for the heater. After lighting, let it burn for several minutes, then start watching to see that the flame doesn't get too high. Too high a flame can produce soot. If the flame is getting too high, you turn the wick adjusting knob counterclockwise to lower the wick thus lowering the flame hight. Conversely, if the flame is too low, excess carbon monoxide can be produced. Turning the wick adjusting knob clockwise will raise the flame height. You will need to check the flame several times during the first 15 minutes of operation while the heater gets up to operating temperature. This is all explained with illustrations in the instruction manual. **Q: will this heater run on #2 diesel?** A: Yes, but you'll have to perform maintenance on the unit more frequently. Especially if the fuel contains additives like dye. If you can't afford to be without heat... Red Dye or other kerosene types may cause soot and smoke as they tend to increase residue build up on the wick, leading to uneven flame and burning of this built up substance ... Very sturdy and easy to assemble and operation is straight forward. My shop is 40x60' (25' ceilings) and it does take a couple of hours to get the room up to temp. I could remedy this by getting a 2nd heater.
