I got it because it is more convenient then getting the big ironing board. More portable **Q: How thick is the mat?** A: As thick as the regular Cricut mat. About 1/2 inch aprox **Q: How thick is the 16x20 mat?** A: I don't recall exactly. Maybe 1/4-1/2 inch? it is thick enough to absorb the heat and not be a problem. Very nice product. **Q: I've read several comments. Trying to find someone who's used both the brand and off brand.
