Raised to help avoid sore necks and tummy's, and to help alleviate whisker fatigue. I like the measuring lines so I can see how much my cats are drinking. I have 9 cats and they all prefer this to their old metal water dishes. The little removeable rubber ring to keep it from sliding around works great due to the increased weight over a metal bowl.
