The cable of the Nintendo charger is too short, and it is inconvenient to swap the charging cable between the Gamepad and its docking station. That's why I purchased this item ( USB Charger Cable For Nintendo Wii U Gamepad Controller ), so that I can recharge the Gamepad from any USB port.The input of the Nintendo Gamepad is rated '4.75V 1.6A'. It is perfectly safe to power it from a standard 5V USB port using this cable. The actual charging current I measured (using the  DROK Dual-USB Gauge ) is under 0.8A. That means any USB charger rated for 1A or more will do the job.For maximum portability, I prefer to recharge my Gamepad using a power bank such as the  Jackery Bar . The Gamepad's internal battery has a capacity of 1500mAh. So an external 5600mAh power bank should provide 3x longer runtime, assuming 80% efficiency in power conversion.There is, however, a discrepancy in cable length. The Amazon description says: 'Length: Approx 31.50"'. The actual cable I received is about 10 feet long, or nearly 4x the length. I have no problems with that. At least it is better than expecting a long cable but getting a short one. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Decent Replacement for the Original WiiU Cord *by B***T on Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2015* I bought this cord as a replacement for the original cord that came with my son's WiiU. The old one had suddenly stopped working and so I wanted to try something different, in fear that the same thing would happen if I got one like the original. This one is shorter, which is fine, and you can plug it in via USB to your computer, a wall adapter, or any other device that can charge other USB devices. It charges quick enough, in comparison to the original. My only issue is that it is slightly a bit more fragile than I would like. I noticed that the USB part had already been a bit bent after someone had unplugged it. Perhaps either my husband or son were too rough, but I would hope that the cord would be more durable. I'm truly hoping that this cord will last longer than the original. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works , short..., but works. *by D***. on Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2015* I got this cable as a replacement for the gamepad cable that is on Nintendo's official gamepad charger. It was easy to desolder the old one from the power supply board and solder this one once the USB connector was cut off.(the red wire in this replacement cable is positive) The original cable was bent too many times and stopped working, making it appear as if the power supply was dead when it was in fact the cable that was bad.I actually thought this was a 10 foot cable and ordered it and realized I may have read the description for another cable and ordered this one instead.
