FOr me the float rod was badly bent and the float was smashed in. There's not much you can do in that situation. The cost to ship it back is high, so I fixed the problems myself. I use this pump as my backup. My setup is all 1.5" PVC so I had to buy a conversion coupler because this pump comes out as 1.25". The motor seems to be a very common part, as I've seen what looks like the same motor on other pedestal pumps. I'm not sure who the OEM is but it seems common. When I went to buy the fittings I needed I saw a pedestal pump at my local ace hardware that looked exactly the same as this unit, except it was 1.5" discharge and it was $15 cheaper. bummer...I should have shopped around. I would suggest going to a store to buy this, too much risk in shipping. They did nothing to secure it and it's heavy. They threw the OEM box into a bigger box with some brown paper. For the damage that occurred I didn't have much recourse. Long story short the pump is in and it works fine. I use a liberty 257 for my primary and this pedestal for my backup.[UPDATE: 1-2-2019]. Pump is not usable anymore. It was my backup pump. I would exercise it once in a while to make sure it was working. This latest time I noticed it was vibrating hard and not pumping any water. The entire base rusted out. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Some Issues with Pump *by J***1 on Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2013* The basic unit seems solid and functional but there were some problems. The finish is crude, but I guess that doesn't matter for a sump pump. The float bulb was crushed in on one side with no damage to the box - just poor packaging (fixed with fender repair suction cup). The worst problem was the bracket that supports the float rod about 2" out from the main column. The metal is about the weight of a soup can. When the float came up, it bent right around to the back of the column, jamming the float at a funny angle. The pump was still running dry hours later when I checked. That's just inexcusable, sloppy, cost cutting. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great pump *by H***Y on Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2011* Needed this pump in a hurry this spring due to heavy rains. Pump fit easily in a small sump pit and was easy to connect to discharge pipe due to the pipe connection on top of the volute. Pump was put to the test with the next heavy rain and worked perfectly. The pump was shipped in its original manufacturers packaging which was then put inside Amazon packaging. The original packaging was pretty beat up inside which resulted in a broken pump switch.
