The power is adjustable but the max is the max. I found the range to be pretty good but a bit marginal to reach a wifi security camera in an outbuilding so I got a Ubiquiti wireless bridge that I am very happy with. I wired it to a switch at the outbuilding and it's about as good as having a wired connection. **Q: With a wireless router do you still need to hookup a cable, or just mount it outside?** A: Hello, Thank you for asking. If you set up as repeater mode, then it connects to the router and extend wifi signal wirelessly. If you set up as AP mode, then it needs to be wired to the router. **Q: How strong is the receiving capability? What distance?** A: It’s more of a question of broadcast signal from the source, amount of physical material that will potentially hamper radio signal and how much competition you have with other wifi in the area. The product receives just fine given ideal conditions. Mine is about 200 feet away in moderate conditioned area. **Q: Could i use this as a wifi access point? i need a stronger wifi signal in my backyard.** A: You can. You can either run a cable to it from your router, indoor wifi, or from a wifi repeater which picks up the signal. At first I thought it was great. Good signal and fast speeds but after a few months it has started to lose connection and drop wifi for no reason. No configuration or location causing it. Will work after a reboot for a while but has to be rebooted every hour or day depending on how it's working.
