## Description

ACDelco GM Original Equipment Engine Coolant Thermostat/Water Inlet Assemblies contain the engine thermostat and water inlet housing and are GM-recommended replacements for your vehicle’s original components. The engine coolant thermostat controls the flow of coolant through the radiator to enable the engine to reach and maintain its normal operating temperature. The water inlet housing connects the radiator hoses to the thermostat. For certain applications, the water inlet contains threaded holes or ports for sensors and switches. These original equipment engine coolant thermostat/water inlet assemblies have been manufactured to fit your GM vehicle, providing the same performance, durability, and service life you expect from General Motors.

Review: 2004 GMC vehicle thermostat - This was a perfect fit for my vehicle. It works great, it's nice to have heat again. It was affordable and delivery was fast. I didn't install it I paid someone's else to do it but he said it wasn't hard to install. They quality of the product is great.
Review: Perfect part but a little difficult to install - This part is obviously the perfect replacement for the original thermostat. The item photos aren't very accurate, but mine arrived as a cast aluminum part just like the original. I installed it in my 2003 Trailblazer EXT 4.2L in about an hour. The installation was straightforward and only took a few tools. Tools: 3/8" Breaker Bar 3/8" Ratchet 3/8" Extension (6") 3/8" Swivel Joint 8mm Socket 10mm Socket 15mm Socket Channel Lock Pliers 1 - Disconnect the battery (8mm bolt). 2 - Remove the serpentine belt from the alternator pulley (3/8" breaker bar is used in the tensioner) 2 - Remove the AC line bracket (10mm bolt) from the LF engine lift bracket. 3 - Remove the LF engine lift bracket (3x 15mm bolts). 4 - Fully loosen the lower alternator mounting bolt (15mm). You will not be able to remove the bolt yet. 5 - Remove the upper alternator bolts (2x 15mm) 6 - Tip the alternator forward to access the wiring connections. 7 - Unplug the plastic plug-in connector (no tools) 8 - Pull back the protective boot and remove the battery wire lug (10mm) 9 - Turn the alternator so the pulley is facing up and the brackets are facing left and right. This will allow it to fit between the engine and the radiator fan during removal. Now you will have good visibility and tool access to the thermostat/water neck. The hose clamp can be compressed with slip-joint pliers and the water neck is attached to the block with 2x 10mm bolts. Not much coolant comes out when the hose is removed, but LOTS will come out when the neck is removed. After replacement, the parts can be installed in the reverse order that they were removed. Remember to insert the bottom alternator bolt in the alternator before putting it back in place.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How does my vehicle’s AC system work?**
A: The AC compressor pressurizes refrigerant gas, which moves to the condenser. The gas releases heat, condensing into a high-pressure liquid. After cooling, the liquid passes over evaporator coils to cool the air as it is blown through the vents.

**Q: What are the signs the system needs service?**
A: Common indicators of an air conditioning system in need of service include warm and/or weak airflow through the vents, frequent on/off cycling of the system and a strange or musty odor.

**Q: Is the puddle of water under my car a sign of AC problems?**
A: Not necessarily. Condensation typically builds up on the AC evaporator and the water is drained at the bottom of the vehicle. That’s normal, but a larger puddle combined with reduced AC performance could indicate a problem.

**Q: Does low refrigerant mean there’s a leak in the system?**
A: In most cases the answer is yes. AC systems in older cars will experience refrigerant leakage over time, but a later-model vehicle that needs continual refrigerant recharging typically indicates a leak.

**Q: Can a new cabin air filter improve AC performance?**
A: Yes. A very dirty or clogged cabin air filter can reduce the airflow of the AC system, reducing its cooling efficiency and making the system work harder than normal. Periodic cabin filter replacements help the AC system keep its cool.
