Review: great replacement (for a mechanical fan) on my X5 - I bought this fan (# 238) to replace the mechanical fan (w/viscous clutch) on my '01 BMW X5. The fan blades were coming apart, and the clutch was howling, so I determined to replace it with what I trusted from prior experience: a Flex-a-Lite electric fan. The Flex-a-lite Flex-Wave LoBoy Electric Fan (Puller), 16" (238), looked like the highest CFM rating that I could fit in, and still use the original fan shroud, despite desertcart's warning that it would not fit. Though I tried using a mounting kit, the Nissens radiator had fins too tight to use the push-thru ties, so I quickly made a mounting frame (with zip-ties & thin aluminum flat bars), and the fan went in just fine. I used an aftermarket thermostatic switch, relay, and wiring kit (not tied into the factory PWM fan circuit that powers the factory auxiliary fan), and the Flex-a-Lite keeps my X5 cool just where I want it, for 2 years now. Great fan!

**Q: Is there any reason it can't be used as a replacement fan for an AC condenser on a motorhome?**
A: The Flex-a-lite Flex-Wave LoBoy Electric Fan (Puller), 16" (238) is a 12-volt electric fan that is designed to be used as a replacement fan for an AC condenser on a motorhome. It has a diameter of 16 inches and moves 3,000 cubic feet of air per minute. It is also relatively quiet, making it a good choice for motorhomes.

**Q: Will this work with a PWM variable speed  controller?**
A: I know it can be wired to a thermostat switch but would check with the company website about a variable speed controller.  I chose to keep my cooling, system simple and effective.  If my motor is running the fan is running.  It does make noise but if your vehicle has insulation it would be less noticeable.  My truck never goes above 195 degrees since I installed the electric fan.  I have a second fan as a spare, in case this one were to die.  It would be an easy replacement as I used an universal aluminum shroud, welded the 4 mounting bolts to the shroud after installing them with the fan.  Undo 4 nuts put the new fan, put the nuts on, acorn the 2 wires until I got home and could do a proper electrical connection.

**Q: 3 3/16 inch or 3.9 inch?**
A: Definitely not 3 3/16 had to make mods to fit it on my 65 mustang. Probably closer to 3.9.

**Q: Does fan come with attachment ties to radiator?**
A: Yes it does but they are not the best at tightening.  So far however the fan has not moved.  I will add though this is hands down the best electric fan I’ve ever used.  It keeps my 400 hp 6.0 LS perfectly cool.
